We have stayed at this hotel a number of times in recent years. Despite the apparent need for a massive overhaul of the whole complex, we had always appreciated its location, the grounds and the lovely swimming pool. So we were thrilled to learn the much-awaited renovation had been finished earlier this year. And what a great job the owners have done. The hotel has been well and truly brought into the 21st century with its stylish neutral decor, timber floors, beautiful bathrooms and incredibly comfortable beds. Some very tiny things still need to be addressed in the rooms; there is no place as yet to put your shampoo, shower gel etc in the shower cubicle. Also the smoke detector alarms have incredibly visible flashing lights which at night, with the black out curtains can keep people awake as their reflection bounces off the ceiling. They just need to be relocated in the entry way or replaced with ones without such annoying lights. Slightly more important feedback .. the food at breakfast is perfectly fine but perhaps could be improved in terms of choice to reflect the brand new decor. And finally the service too. We just think this beautiful hotel now needs to be accompanied with a friendly, highly-responsive staff. The service has always been perfunctory over the years; nothing more, nothing less. We had put that down to the fact the hotel was clearly in need of a overhaul. Yet now that the hotel is really lovely, perhaps the time has come for a rethink about service. But hurrah, Sotogrande now has another beautiful hotel; it’s reasonably priced too so would highly recommend it.

I would like to say, despite all the big talk from other hotels in the area, this small but very friendly and cute hotel is my favourite. I am from Florida in the U.S. and am used to staying at some very grand hotels but Encinar is just so cute and even more welcoming, I would advise anyone visiting Sotogrande to stay here. That's the good news. However, my rating is just for the hotel and not the area. Other than the great golf courses, there is nothing about Sotogrande that fits the descriptions you read about in the magazines or Google or the advertisements by the realtors. In fact much of what they say is untrue. In particular, although Hotel Encinar is peaceful, Sotogrande, in general is a very noisy place. I have stayed in the hills where building work, cranes and heavy vehicles cause a lot of unwanted noise, unbearable noise that seems to never stop. Much worse than that is in the port where my friends live. They have two houses they are trying to sell and cannot sell because of the continuous noise from the very loud machinery that is used by the gardeners who are relentless, starting at 8 every morning and going on and on all day, every day of the week. Sure they make it look pretty but it's not worth it, the noise never stops. My friends are fraught with stress due to this and the other noise from the private swimming pools all around the resort that are full of screaming children playing with inflatables. No one every does anything about it. The security is just 1 car that goes around but there is no security on foot. They are not able to take their young children even for a walk as most of the roads are built only for cars, there are no sidewalks, only drains or the road (where cars and motorcycles speed) to walk in. The summer in Sotogrande is unbearable now because they have booming, ear-piercing music from live concerts and DJ's that perform from midnight to 6am all through the summer. This place is anything but tranquil. The bars and restaurants are nothing special and there is nothing else to do but play golf. There are no places of interest. You can't get out anywhere without a car, there are no trains and barely a bus. Don't believe what you read about this place. Maybe sixty years ago it was OK but it's now become unbearable. All the people from Marbella descend in Sotogrande for the concerts then hundreds and hundreds of people walk around the beach and streets in the early hours drunk and looking revolting, doing things that make my stomach churn. I feel very sorry for all the property owners who thought they had made a good investment and are now driven from their homes by the downfall of this place. This year was the worst yet. I was talking to some business owners in the nearby village who have had to move away due to the influx of people and the unbelievable noise. Next year, I shall be staying in Malaga and driving down for the golf. I

Espectacular experiencia, no es de los hoteles más nombrados de la sombra pero para mi gusto supera las cuatro estrellas... El personal es mucho más que amable, sobre todo el de recepción, y las instalaciones son amplias y bien cuidadas. La habitación que nos tocó, 1004, en dos niveles -no apta para personas mayores o con movilidad reducida- pero muy amplia, cómoda y acogedora. Las camas mullidas y confortables al igual que las almohadas y el resto de la estancia práctica y funcional y muy limpia. La zona de la piscina muy bien también, quizá faltarían algunos parasoles más pero se compensa con la sombra de las palmeras que hay en el recinto. La socorrista muy agradable y te facilitan toallas para las hamacas. Lo que nos sorprendió sobremanera fue la calidad de la cena, a la carta... llevábamos media pensión por un precio bastante razonable para esta época del año y nos ofrecieron elegir un primero, un segundo y un postre de la carta; algunos de los platos llevaban un suplemento de 3 ó 5 euros dependiendo de lo que quisieras comer pero todo lo que estaba incluido sin pago adicional tenía muy buena pinta así que nos decidimos por varios platos con los que acertamos plenamente... calidad y presentación de primera, como se puede comprobar en las fotos... El precio de las bebidas que van aparte también muy razonable para la categoría del establecimiento. El desayuno bastante completo, sin excentricidades pero todo lo que había era de calidad, sobre todo la fruta de temporada cortada, el pan, el fiambre y el jamón serrano, y el café de cápsulas muy natural y bueno. Volveremos con toda probabilidad y lo recomendaremos a todos nuestros conocidos.

El Hotel Encinar de Sotogrande, brinda a los visitantes, una amplia gama de posibilidades para el alojamiento y disfrute. Fácil acceso, precios asequibles, muy buena atención de todo el staff. Lo conocía de la época que lo gestionaba NH, pero debo decir que ha dado un salto de calidad que se agradece. Solo tuve una mala experiencia con el minibar (recalentaba y no enfriaba nada). Espero volver.

Es un hotel estupendo para descansar y jugar al golf. Fue excelente la atención por parte de todo el personal. Nos dieron una habitación superior con terraza amplia, vistas a la piscina y al campo de golf. Cenamos muy bien en el restaurante del hotel, que ofrece una carta variada a buen precio.

Having visited many hotels in Spain to play golf with the family, we booked and stayed here having booked nearby courses. Upon arrival the lobby looked nice! That’s where it ends, it’s very dated and in need of an upgrade. We had to be moved due to the dampness and smell of mould in our room. No complimentary tea/coffee etc in the room, first time we’ve come across this. We had 4 rooms and everyone of them was in a poor state. We won’t return here and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who wishes for a comfortable stay!

Good location for golfers. Friendly staff and nice lounches and lobby. Very personal decor in bathrooms. Ok buffet breakfast. We had booked a superior room, but got a standard. We had to complain three times before getting what we had ordered and paid. And there must be some serious moisture issues in the rooms. There was a very stuffy smell in the rooms and opening doors and windows did not help a lot. After getting back home we had to wash and air out all our clothes couple of times to get rid of the smell.

The hotel is very run down, the lower corridors and rooms smell of mold. We changed room directly and got a much nicer one on the second floor. The food in the restaurant .. well, if you stick to the simpler things, like a clubdandwich its ok, dont try anything else, its a disaster. The cleaning of the rooms are good but all around you can see dishes and bottels beeing put outside the rooms on the floor, not beeing collected for days, looks very bad seeing old food and glasses outside your and other peoples doors. Whats good? The breakfast! The only thing i missed were fresh vegetables, like cucumber, tomato and salad, other than that the breakfast was great! And the staff is great too, they do what they can with what thay have. Very nice staff all over, edpecially in the reception and the bar.

Nice building in attractive grounds. Reception staff helpful and pleasant. Some rooms permanently in shade hence cold all day. Some refurbishment needed door frames and skirtings quite shabby. There is nothing near the hotel so you need a car or a taxi (15 EUR each way) to get to the marina, which itself is quite nice. The distance from facilities made the bar and restaurant important. but big problem is the lack of staff at the bar through the day and in the evening (breakfast not so bad). In the evening there was often no staff at the bar, so to get a drink you had to go and find someone. The staff that were there were very busy, and told the customers! They seemed quite annoyed that we wanted to order drinks and food, and let us know! I don't think I would go back to this hotel, and I would avoid others in the chain.

Quiet and ample rooms, a little rough around the edges. You'll need a car as nothing is walkable. Breakfast buffet was terrible with cold 'hot' food.

Good place to stay in Sotogrande. All facilities are good. Very comfortable bed and friendly/helpfull staff
