Thoroughly recommend! A perfect stay, beautiful comfortable rooms and the best service from all staff this weekend particularly Brian who made us so welcome. Looking forward to our next visit.

We stayed over at the local family-run Nithsdale Hotel last night and enjoyed a very reasonably-priced meal in their cosy restaurant and it was delicious. Home cooked food served by the friendliest staff. The bar was mostly locals who made us feel very welcome indeed. The hotel and bar staff were great (thank you Hannah!) as was the proprietor of the place, Michael, who was really helpful and knowledgeable about the locale (things to do, etc.). Very personable as well - they all were! The hotel is a mixture of modern and traditional Scottish charm (it’s a very old building, but the decor was really in tune with it) which was reflected in the restaurant, bar and the room we stayed is was so cosy and welcoming with all the mod cons you could ask for during your stay. The bed was extremely comfy as well, we slept like logs. They’ve even got a cute little snug area near the reception which looked very inviting although we didn’t sit in there as we were too busy gassing with people in the bar. The car park is at the rear and even with the next-door neighbour’s scaffolding in the way (half way through building a house) we had no problem getting into the car park. I have read on here that some people found it tricky to navigate into the car park because of the building work going on next to it, but that is of no fault of the hotel and nothing to do with them as it’s the neighbour’s land. Plenty of room in the car park and a lovely outside area which I can imagine is very nice to sit in during the summer. We will definitely be back, they haven’t seen the last of us 😊

Good hotels are hard to find in this part of Scotland and the approach to this one did nothing to raise our hopes. We drove around the back streets of Sanquhar and then through a building site to reach the very small hotel car park. Once in the building things improved. It has fairly recently had a major upgrade and our room was lovely, spacious and well appointed. Dinner was a major disappointment. I had a lambburger which was acceptable but no more than that. My wife's vegetable lasagne consisted of three slices of courgette and two half mushrooms, fried in far too much oil (which she had to pour off) and then smothered in cheese. That is not a lasagne! The cold buffet breakfast was ok but hot dishes required an additional charge, which seems a little mean. The hotel boasts wifi available throughout the building but wherever we tried we got the message "webpage unavailable". No-one on the staff seemed to know anything about this. A general problem was the total lack of a responsible adult in charge. We were looked after by very pleasant, friendly but clearly untrained girls.

Lovely little quaint hotel in the centre of the town , or is it a village ? Nice cheery staff who were always willing to assist in any way . We found our bedroom to be spacious and very comfortable . Modern shower and even a fridge available .Nice view of the garden to the back of the hotel and the local bird life . We took the continental breakfast though a cooked one was there if you wished . Everything that you could wish was to hand . The evening meal was traditional grub but very tasty . Bar and the snug were small but quiet welcoming . I suggest that you ask for a bedroom to the back to avoid the traffic noise . Overall we were delighted to have picked this hotel to stay in for our 2 nights .

Really enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable accommodation, very helpful staff and excellent breakfast and dinner. Nothing was too much trouble and if we did have any issues, they were dealt with quickly and in good humour. Would strongly recommend and we will certainly stay again.

Wow what an amazing trip to Scotland we have had, booked 6 rooms between family and jade, Micheal, Brian and team where all amazing. Everything was made seamless and they couldn’t do enough for us. Rooms were clean and accessible, all we needed. Food - was lovely and Micheal went above and beyond with any requests we had oh and I need his soup recipes especially the tomato one as I don’t eat soup but I could have ate a pit full of that! Locals made us very welcome and we had an amazing 9 days with them. Thank you to team nithsdale Hope to be back some day

Annan walking group enjoyed soup and sandwiches following a walking weekend away. The lentil soup was delicious, the sandwiches tasty and the whole thing including tea and coffee were served professionally by lovely friendly staff. Many thanks it was a nice end to a fantastic weekend.

From booking in and having an evening meal, all the staff were polite and very helpful. Firstly we were attending the Dumfries & Galloway Fair, and on going for drinks in the beer tent, noticed the bar was being run by the hotel, and on speaking to the person behind the bar, said he was the hotel manager, and on telling him we had booked hotel and meal, and advised hotel we would be booking in around 6 pm and booked meal for 6:30 pm, he said we should stay and enjoy the entertainment in beer tent once fair finished at 6 pm, and he phoned hotel for us and put everything back so we could stay and enjoy the entertainment. Booking in was quick, with a very polite and helpful young gentleman. Evening meal was excellent, great choices on menu, and again all the staff very attentive throughout. Room was large and very comfortable bed, excellent night sleep. Breakfast, only had the continental, and sufficient what was on offer. Would definitely recommend.

Went for bar lunch and was very disappointed ordered two pints of best and had to return them as had sour taste replaced with warm lager & Guinness!!! Got good menu that was very limited so opted for the tasteless burger only to find out later we were given wrong menu as other menu had steak pie & fish & chips on it. Was left very disappointed also brown sauce sachets are the cheap options!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay here. The staff really went above and beyond to accomodate us, which we really appreciated. They're also all generally really friendly and welcoming and like chatting to visitors and remember what they talked about the next day which is really welcoming. The rooms are lovely and very clean. I slept wonderfully. The restaurant is great, delicious food with pretty good prices for a hotel restaurant. We really enjoyed an evening G&T in the lovely garden out back (they had a great selection of different gins at the bar). The continental breakfast is included in the price and was really very good with lots of fruit, yoghurt, juices, breads, pastry and pancakes and even espresso coffee. You can also upgrade to a cooked breakfast though we didn't feel the need. In general the hotel is clean and well decorated, very cosy with wonderful staff and good food. For the price of the rooms you really couldn't ask for better service. 10/10 recommend!

Went for drive to enjoy the good weather we were driving through Sanquhar when we decided to stop for lunch. After walking down main street wecwere drawn to the Nithsdale hotel what a gem five star service and food ........ we will be back. Highly recommend the sharing platter good quality and variety of food.

Just had a brilliant one night stay here,evening meal and breakfast were extremely good,this is a great choice for a stay staff are all so frienly and helpfull,rooms very comfortable,we had a very enjoyable evening in the bar with a great crowd of locals who made us both very welcome,cant recommend this any higher would definately stay here again

Five star service from all the staff who couldn't have been more helpful. Nothing was a trouble to them, even when we stayed in the dining room to chat, long after everyone else had gone. A very memorable stay with friends who hadn't seen each other for 27 years! Food was delicious! A great variety and something to suit everyone, even a burger night!! Would have no hesitation in recommending The Nithsdale Hotel as a venue, which also has entertainment, and will book again for our next get-together soon!

Lovely meal in a clean and attractive restaurant. Good menu choice, with some variations from the usual. Fairly priced, so no major concerns when the bill arrived. Service excellent and quick, and all food tastefully served. Would highly recommend.
