I stayed last week with my wife at this splendid hotel. We have stayed several times at the Maria Cristina and decided to try something different this time. The Akelare Hotel is locates in a hill overlooking the ocean but just a 10 min ride from the city center. All rooms have an uninterrupted view of the ocean that changes in tones depending on the weather. You can even have a salt bath with that same view from your bathroom.The beautiful spa is another option.From the balcony of your room the only sound you hear is that of birds. The hotel architecture is reminiscent of a modern simple modern museum. Only tones of stone and ocre as decoration. The terraces are just unique: one is a cocktail bar, another a relaxing area, others serve as casual restaurant. All of the round terraces with share the amazing view of the ocean. The breakfast is prepared with produce from the area, not to mention eggs in any which way you want. Finally, I must say that the concierge service offered by Mr Abbou and Mr Vikeras was flawless. They organized our transfer from the Bilbao airport, tours of the area when we were taken to Azurmendi and they even packed bottles of wines for us for luggage transport. Never a no from their part and perfect suggestions as to tours and other nearby restaurants to visit. As to the Akelare restaurant, well they have three stars and this was our third visit. If you want to unwind, relax and eat well, this is the place to be in San Sebastián.
