We stayed at the Callia Caves in Santorini for 3-nights in early-June (€413/night). We had the 2-bedroom grand cave suite, set shotgun-style into the hillside with the windows and patio doors at the front. Located in the pedestrian-only area near the edge on the caldera, it was fronted by a walkway leading to the restaurant in front and another a bit further down the hill, so few others passed in front of our patio. Be prepared, though, for a 200 m walk over cobblestones with your luggage, both up and down stairs. The apartment had a huge sitting area with a long couch and chairs, a kitchen with a small food preparation area and large table with 4 chairs. Despite being a cave, the front doors and windows let in plenty of light on both floors, creating an airy Greek island feel. At the back, the 1st bedroom was large with plenty of clothes storage, and made huge by the adjoining hot tub (really a deep plunge pool) and 2-sink bathroom with shower. The hot tub was a pleasant place to relax after a day's activities or after dinner, but tended to create humidity and a slight chlorine odour (probably due to keeping the AC off during the cool weather). The front patio had a large table and chairs (and a clothes drying rack), although we didn't use it other than for breakfast because the view was obstructed by the restaurant. A steep, narrow staircase led to the 2nd bedroom (we left our suitcases downstairs), another large room with a second bathroom (the sloping cave walls made it necessary to stoop at the sides of the room). Its best feature, though, was the upper patio. A window seat had been opened up to lead to a large deck with 4 seats and a beanbag chair. And the views! Not quite panoramic (part of the restaurant roof sticks up), but the view of the caldera was stunning. A great spot for afternoon or evening drinks. The included breakfast, ordered from a menu and delivered in cardboard boxes at a selected time, consisted of a selection of hot items plus baked goods and orange juice (the kitchen was fully stocked with coffee, milk, etc.). Unfortunately, the hot food was usually cold and not particularly tasty. Our hostess was great. She arranged for our port pickup, met the taxi on the road, recommended and made restaurant reservations, and responded quickly to every question and request. Overall, a nice splurge in Santorini; the only negative was the breakfast, which I would expect to be better at this price.
