This hotel was just a block from Route 66 near the U-Drop Inn. The rooms were clean, the place is quiet and fit our needs well. The location is right on US-83. If we find ourselves in Shamrock again, this would be our go-to place. This property is on par with other HIE locations.

Don’t Stay Here !!! Nightmare We checked in at 8:30pm and everything seemed fine, staff were friendly and room was clean. At 2:00am people checked in next door to us and started playing heavy rock music all night past 5:30am. I called the from desk to complain but was told there was nothing they could do. Now I was on a 38 hour road trip home and needed the sleep. Finally at 5am, with only 2-3 hours sleep I checked out. I was told the manager would call me that day. This is 5 days later and nothing. No one word from the hotel

Seemingly a new hotel. Decent price. The Room was spacious and the design was very nice!! Plus a Kuerig in the room for coffee. Bathroom design was a tad on the small side also breakfast closes at 9:30:( but other than that it’s a wonderful stop!!

When we went to our assigned room the door was open. We entered and the room appeared clean. We just assumed that the cleaning staff had accidentally left the door opened. We unpacked and I prepared to take a shower. When I open the toilet lid the toilet was full of poop that had obviously been there for a while. I tried flushing the toilet and it would not flush. Needless to say there was a terrible odor. I called the front desk and attendant said she would send someone up. I waited a few minutes and called back. I requested to be moved to another room. The hotel did move us. The second room appeared to be fine, but when I entered the bathroom there were two used wash rags hanging over the shower curtain. Obviously this hotel has cleaning and maintenance issues.

This stay was a disaster from the start. We were about 3 hours from arriving, and the hotel calls us on the phone and tells us that the room we had reserved (a handicapped room) was no longer available. Keep in mind, the reservation was made 2 months ago. They offered us another room. When we walked in the room, there was a strong smell of sewer coming from the drains in the bathroom. The handle on the bathroom door was falling off. There was a big hole in the wall where the room door has hit the wall. We killed 4 large bugs in the room. We went to hang some clothes in the closet and the closet wall was covered in mildew/mold.. A lamp didn't work, and the TV remote would not turn the tv on or off, or operate the volume. The website says there is "A free, hot breakfast buffet." Not true, and looking at the reviews, there hasn't been a buffet for several months. Of course, they don't tell you that when you book your room, but only when you check in. I asked the front desk how long has it been since they served a hot breakfast buffet. She said 2-3 weeks. I do not like being lied to. The hotel *is* going thru renovations, but there is no excuse for these conditions.

This is a brand new hotel and is in very good shape. Probably the nicest hotel on this stretch of I40/Route 66 amidst the many (and very variable) repurposed Route 66 era motels. The breakfast was good. The room lovely. Only complaints were that check-in took 24 minutes; clerk couldn't figure out how to change reservation to a different credit card. No real desk chair in the room. And while it was easy to hook the computer to the tv, the internet was very slow and sometimes simply cut out (which made trying to do some work in the morning impossible)

Wonderful hotel. We stopped here to get out of a storm and did not realize that the hotel was there. Recently remodeled which was very nice. Room was clean and ample size for my family. Located in a good spot near Route 66 things. Near both fast food and local restaurants.

I usually pick Holiday Inn Express because of the newness and cleanliness. I was shocked by this particular hotel. Upon check in I was told she wasn’t capable of accessing my rewards member status and maybe someone in the morning could. I then asked if there was any restaurants that delivered. She responded “ I don’t think so, but I have some cookies my daughter is selling”. I ended up walking across the street to McDonald’s. Not to mention the cleanliness of the hotel in general. TERRIBLE! I then get to my room and the main light didn’t work, there wasn’t any hot water, and no body wash left in the container. By all means avoid this hotel. There are newer motels in town that are hopefully better equipped, both staff and accommodations.

We searched online for pet-friendly hotels in Shamrock, TX. Since we often stay at Holiday Inn's when traveling between Michigan City and Phoenix, AZ. and since this hotel was on the pet-friendly list, we chose it and reserved a room. My husband checked in and gave me my key copy, he took the luggage and I parked the car and walked the dog. When I got to the room, I told him that I was going to see what they had to eat so I headed downstairs and bought a microwave popcorn and some water. The front desk clerk asked if I would make her dinner in our microwave -- essentially microwaving it, stirring it, then microwaving it again. Very strange, but I felt bad that she had no microwave and nothing to eat so I was happy to do it for her. I brought her dinner and she said "thank you." When I went back to the room, he said that the TV was not working. I went back out and told her and she said to try a different remote. We tried it and the TV still did not work. At this point, I took the dog out again out the side door since it was right near our room. I walked around and came in the front with the dog to return the second remote and tell her it wasn't working. At that point, she said "This is not a pet-friendly hotel." I told her that that's not what it showed online when searching "pet friendly hotels in Shamrock." She said we'd have to check out and couldn't stay there. I was incredulous. What if I paid an extra charge? No, we can't stay. She got on the phone with her boss and he said no way could we stay. I asked to speak to him or her and she said, "No, I won't let you speak to him." Needless to say, I was very upset given that it was listed as pet-friendly on travel sites. We had already unpacked and had just been on the road for 9 hours. I grabbed the luggage cart and as I walked by again, I asked that she credit my card for the room. She still had her boss on the phone who told her, "No" and not only that, but they're charging me $300.00 for the fact that the dog even entered the room. Whaaaat? She acted as though I was sneaking the dog in the hotel. Why would I both sneak the dog in AND bring the dog with me to the front desk while I tried to deal with the TV problem? She was rude. Her boss was rude. And I vowed then and there to NEVER stay in a Holiday Inn again.

I’m comparing this Holiday Inn Express with other Holiday Inn Expresses in the chain. And unfortunately, it’s at the bottom end of all I’ve stayed. The bad: Old and tired. The room, though non-smoking, smelled as if it was smoked in years ago. The carpet had many stains. The bathroom was supposed to be accessible, but had no accessibility features. The lighting throughout was bright white fluorescent. The fitness room was a small, dark, and musty box with outdated equipment. No coffee out when I arrived. The good: Clean linens, comfortable bed, quiet, pleasant staff, price is reasonable. And yes, I know the hotel is under renovation. It’s just what was in front of me on that day.

This hotel would have earned a 5 out of 5 if they change the following: 1) The front desk staff, Kaylin, could practice active listening rather than insisting following rules rigidly and inflexibly. 2) Cold shower 3) A hair found hiding behind liquid soap bottles - can do better job in looking around the corners and hidden places 4) Obvious bathtub has cracks need repairs 5) Water stain found on a nightstand 6) A crème and sugar bag was found open in the room The front desk manager, CC, did a great job. Poor service attitude, cold shower, hairs found together contributed to a 3 out 5 rating. I believe they can do much better than this and is capable of hitting 5 out of 5 if they can fix these items above. Please note that this hotel is undergoing through renovation, a temporary thing. It did not contribute negatively to my experience.
