海峽美景酒店(Channel View Hotel)

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in May. The hotel is situated very close to the beach and within walking distance (15 mins) of the town centre, bus station and train station. Parking is free. There is one electric charge point. The room was spacious and clean. I booked a side sea view which gave us a good view of the sea. The room had 2 single vets thar were rather hard. What impressed me most about the hotel was the staff. James the manager and his team made the stay special. Jax and Jane on reception were very welcoming and knowledgeable and helped with all our questions. The breakfast was included in the price but was very disappointing. It was cooked early and was inedible by the end of the breakfast session as not even a knife would cut into it. This was fed back to the manager who reassured us that improvements would be made. The staff in the dining room were very friendly and welcoming which was lovely. Thank you Sarah F and Shannon. The staff at this hotel make your stay special. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely stay here again

This hotel is perfect, beautiful rooms and we had a view to die for .The staff from start to the end of our holiday where there for anything you needed ,the hotel had a lift which was a bonus when we open the door to our room crisp clean white linen bed sheets and soft white fluffy towels and various,free toiletries arranged beautifully in bathroom ample teas, coffee etc .The food at breakfast was delicious and dinner menu 3 courses and great cheese and bic followed by coffee this hotel has polite, professional staff customer service was first class,the rooms where serviced every day to perfection we where transferred from Brunswick sister hotel which is a much lower standard lack of customer service no restaurant and manager rude. The staff at Chanel view made our holiday wonderful and we have booked for next year Highly recommended 5stars

We have just stayed here for 6 nights, family of 5 with 2 rooms (kids 11,13,15) . The reason for booking was we wanted a hotel with a pool and in Shanklin. I had read all the reviews on here and on another search engine site. I do agree with lots of the previous reviews so was definitely prepared for the negative points of hotel, but also with an open mind. The hotel is dated, very 90’s style. But this was ok with us as had expected it, we had 2 single beds and 1 double in our room. Double very comfy but one of the single beds was not and 11 year old was complaining a lot. Shower was again as expected, useless!!!! Mixer tap with small head. On walking into the bathroom I noticed there was a pile of hair and a cap off the free shampoo bottles on the floor behind by the bath, a piece of toilet tissue also in the floor under the basin unit, absolutely disgusting as obviously hadn’t been cleaned properly from previous guest. Rest of bathroom was clean, our room was clean apart from a few crumbs in the drawers. Can’t comment on other room. Lack of milk and tea and TAKE YOUR OWN TOILET PAPER as a room of 4 with 2 rolls is just ridiculous. Ended up pinching some from the toilets by bar as receptionist apparently had none. Swimming pool. Well forget going on a Thursday! It was our last day so we cut our day short so the kids could enjoy time in the pool. Nope it was closed due to private class, no signs anywhere before hand to say so and 2 very upset children. Not impressed. Pool is ok, bit small but kids enjoyed it. Hall carpets need a hoover as look like they haven’t been hoovered for months. Holes in walls and ceiling tiles broken throughout parts of hotel, can not understand this as it doesn’t cost much to fix. Breakfast 8.am-9.30. It was ok but for extras you had to add £1 an item. Give the fried eggs a miss as most days turned up under cooked. Toast was often cold. But staff very nice. You have to pre order evening meals by 4.pm, we didn’t bother as lots of nice places on Esplanade to eat. Bar, open all day if you can find someone to serve you as you have to go to reception around the corner. Pricey drinks. Shuts bang on 10.pm. Evening entertainment is ok, nothing special but hardly anyone in room to watch and some days there was nothing on at all. Staff are pleasant. Shanklin is really lovely and I’d definitely go back but unfortunately would look elsewhere to stay. Sorry.

Wow what can I say such a fab hotel we had a family room with a sea view which I booked last year .The room was spacious with loads of cupboard space drawer space with coffee &tea .Plenty of towels in the room clean and fresh.What a view looking over the sea .The staff can not do enough for you room cleaned every day breakfast is so good continental or English which you prefer. It was such a nice hotel which my opinion deserves a lot of credit to the staff and the mangerment with a fantastic team .Ps keep if up we will be back

We booked over 30 rooms for a party from Germany. The party had difficulty arriving in time for the evening meal due to ferry problems (IOW and Calais/Dover) and traffic conditions, but the hotel was able to help with alternative arrangements. For this we were extremely thankful. The staff were friendly and always ready to help generally. The hotel is built on different levels with many external and internal steps to negotiate, yet elderly members of the party who had mobility problems did not report any great difficulty coping. There is an alternative route into the hotel for those who need a more gentle sloping entrance. The position overlooking Shanklin beach was appreciated and it is a short downhill walk to the sea front, although the route back as well as the cliff walks along the Sandown/Shanklin bay could be challenging for mobility problems. The party were happy with the food and service. The dining area was pleasant, light and airy. There was a good level of maintenance and cleaning generally. Entertainment was provided in the bar and some members of the party appreciated the provision of a swimming pool in a busy programme of excursions. Overall, the hotel offered impressive value for money.

I know hotels are very subjective and this is just the experience from my point of view and I appreciate others may love this place. I go away quite a bit, I love a wee weekend away. My criteria for a hotel has to be near the beach and have pool and spa etc. Not overly bothered about the actual room long as there is bed and bath. Firstly, the location of this hotel is great. I normally stay at The Wight in Sandown which is also a great location. Parking was reasonable with front and back as well as road parking. On walking up to the hotel, first thing we noticed was we were being stared at by a man at the door who was actually staff, never greeted us just stared at us. My daughter is a stunning 27 yr old but still, a staff member already made us uncomfortable before we even entered the building. He then stood over us not speaking while we were at reception. Weird. Now.. the guy at reception.. TripAdvisor has lots of reviews about friendly staff but this wasn't our experience. To say this guy had zero personality wouldn't be stretching it. I don't think he even said hello. Waited until we paid and asked about the pool to be told it was all out of service and we would have to go to another hotel to swim.. To add to it when asked if it had hot tub, sauna. He just said 'i don't work there, I don't know'. I mean, I'm not a Karen but Jesus take the wheel, this guy had a bee up his a*se and should never be customer facing. Scowling at us over the desk like I'd peed on his carpet. Their 'welcome to channel view' book says friendly and knowledgeable staff but I didn't meet any in that place. He didn't tell anything about facilities or the bar or anything useful. Our room looked like an upgrade as we had 2 beds and a full sea view which was nice. It looked like a house I had in the 90s with all pine furniture and weird pelmet curtains but clean and comfortable. The beds were extremely nice and cozy and the room had 2 fans. The bathroom was ok with the usual toiletries etc. The shower was awful and the cold tap lost so much water that the shower was too hot or it was stone cold alternating every 10 seconds. The bar was ok and the bar man was a Gosport character with that ADHD temperament I know and love about Gosport men, lol. Breakfast in the morning I wasn't holding out much hope for as it was 'free' and in a small 1.5 hour window. We were shown to our seat by friendly staff and there was juice, cereal, yogurt and lovely lady with tea and coffee. Menu was good and had gluten free options. I had eggs Florentine which is really nice and 2 rounds of toast. The staff were attentive and was well organised. Good veggie and vegan options. Coffee wasn't the worst. Another odd thing was that you had to give your key in when you left the building. Personally, I didn't do that. I've never stayed somewhere where I'm not trusted with a door key. My belongings are in that room and as an adult I feel I can carry a key on my person as I do at home! So,

We went in march there was not enough staff to serve people at meal times very often food was sent back it was cold ,bar at night closed at 10 barman was also doing other jobs could wait 10 mins for a drink room was just about ok will not be going back

Recent coach trip, the ladies occupying restaurant Table 26 thank all the young staff who looked after us, they were cheerful, polite and very obliging, especially Livvy Parr who was our main waitress. One of our party had special dietary needs and thanks to Livvy, who, at just about every meal checked with the kitchen, making sure ingredients would not present any health issues. It was agreed senior management and chefs fell short of our expectations.

Booked after reading reviews. Cannot think this was the same hotel that I thought would be good after I had read them. Food was dreadful. Hardly cooked veg and rotten potatoes. Inedible. Room was dirty with soiled bedding. Never again would stay at this hotel.
