拱門賓館(Archway Guest House)

Hosts were so niceeeee! The room was comfortable with a great mountain view. I really love the breakfast. And can walk only 5 minutes to the railway station and 3 minutes to the bus stop.

My wife and I spent 3 weeks in England and Scotland in October 2023 and stayed at a variety of places. Some were not great, but The Archway Guesthouse stands out as one that we will remember fondly. Anita was a wonderful welcoming host and the location was perfect. The room was spacious with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The bathroom was huge with a wonderful rain type shower head. So much nicer than most European hotels or B&B's. My wife and I are not big breakfast eaters, but there was more than enough choice to satisfy us. The central part of Windermere is literally a 2 minute walk from the house. We were able to find parking on College Road right in front of the house and it wasn't the type of street where you have to worry about paying for parking or having your car towed. Anita recommended a couple of great restaurants, one of which was Hooked. This was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I'd ever had when considering the food, personable service and small restaurant atmosphere. And I've dined out at some very nice places in many parts of the world. Anita recommended a nice little hike just a few minutes away that took us through some beautiful woods up to a great view of the area. One day we took a cab up to Ambleside (there are also busses that run there frequently for lower cost) and wandered around that area, then took a boat ride back to Browness-on-Windermere where we had a short walk back to the cottage. Truly wonderful experience that left us with pleasant memories. A highlight of our 3-week trip, even though we were only there for a couple of days.

We loved everything about our 4 night stay in the Archway Guesthouse. The hosts, Denis and Anita, made us feel really welcome and they were a joy to stay with. The location is ideal, being very close to the shops and restaurants and the rail and bus stations, yet located in a quiet neighbourhood. The room we stayed in (the Windermere) had a very light and spacious bedroom and bathroom, with comfortable beds, tasteful decor and fantastic views over the mountains. The breakfasts were brilliant, everything we tried (including the Caribbean) was top notch. All in all, a fantastic guest house offering great value for money and we can’t recommend it highly enough.

I spent 2 wonderful nights (and mornings) at this family-run guesthouse. I was welcomed from the start, greeted by Tessa, father Dennis, and brother Robert, and made to feel at home right away. The accommodations (I stayed in the Grasmere Room) were just what I needed, quiet, cozy, far away from the big city, yet still very close to everything, the Windermere train/bus station, nearby food markets, restaurants and within walking distance of Lake Windermere. The Breakfast offerings were also top notch. Treat yourself, you won't regret it!

We loved our stay at The Archway. Anita and Denis were excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. From help with parking to lemon drizzle cake on arrival plus a great vegetarian breakfast, they couldn't have been more accommodating. We stayed in the Coniston room which had wonderful views, a very comfortable bed and a lovely bathroom. We're already planning our next stay!

Lovely place, some nice touches

We really enjoyed our stay with Anita and Denis - they were such lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome. Our room was cosy and had a large bathroom plus a fabulous view. The breakfast was fantastic also with lots of choice. We highly recommend this place and would definitely book again.
