Review Excellent hotel with great historical vibe. Location of the hotel was perfect: in the middle of everything but still quiet and peaceful. Our room was spacious and lovely. Staff was more than friendly and eager to help with everything. The staff felt genuinly interested in you and your welfare. We spent a lot of time chatting with them about all sorts of things. Plentiful breakfast was served in a very nice restaurant near by with personal and friendly service. Their friendliness was also more than just being polite: there was no feeling of rush but they had time to talk with us about Croatian habits, house prices and what ever people generally chat about. The city itself and Croatian people were a wonderful surprise to us. Everything worked smoothly, people were friendly and chatty, atmosphere was relaxed, everything was tidy, public transportation worked perfectly, there was great website where you could follow the bus locations realtime etc.

This hotel is a hidden gem. Located 'in the middle of everything" and very comfortable in all ways measurable. The biggest aspect is staff. These people are so helpful and sincere. We had a medical issue and they dropped everything to help and guide. Edita was such a sweetheart and could not have been more helpful and sincere. If we go to Croatia again, I will not miss staying at Hotel Cardo.

Location of the hotel is incredible right in the heart of split. If you are looking to explore the historic city this is the location you want. Only 5 rooms at the hotel but staff is always available. Despite being so close to the action you feel extremely secluded in your room. Very little outside noise. Breakfast is a feast with 3 courses. Very accommodating to gluten free. Rooms had great historic charm and bathrooms were large and modern. Would definitely recommend the hotel and we had a great stay.

We travel quite a bit and always stay at nice hotels. I also worked 20+ years in luxury hotels including one of the top boutique hotels in DC. Heritage Hotel Cardo is easily one of the best that I have experienced. We had 2 rooms altogether for 4 nights. The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating, from the usual restaurant requests to arranging a doctor visit for our daughter. The rooms are spacious, clean and well appointed. The included breakfast at a nearby cafe was very nice. The city in high season can be a bit loud, but it is a minor thing. I highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Split.

This place was amazing! It is in the most perfect location and has the most amazing staff. They are super attentive and super willing to help with anything. Best place we have stayed in a long time. Also, the rooms are super beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast was included and very very good. They take great care of you here! We will be back!

We had a great stay at Cardo hotel. It’s amazingly located, very clean, friendly, hospitable. It’s a definition of a great hospitality. There are many good hotels, but often they fall apart when issues arise, Cardo excelled at solving and helping us make the best vacation ever. Our arrival time kept charging from day to almost midnight, and made sure that someone waiting for us with umbrella at the parking spot. They helped to navigate logistics and did it all with a great smile. Everyone is smiling and top notch. Their manager Ivan makes sure to personally greet you as well and make sure that everything you want is above and beyond and then some. Also as a bonus, in our room we had exposed historical brick wall dating to 15th century. Thank you!

We loved this hotel. The staff: Dominic, Philip, Editha and another man whose name I missed, were fantastic. Editha was amazing. Our room was spacious which we enjoyed and the shower greatly appreciated. It was lovely to see the original old stone in the bathroom. Our window looked out on the narrow street but we kept the shutters partially closed for privacy reasons. There was also a mini-fridge in the room and you can drink water from the tap. The hotel is accessible via a short winding stairs with table and chairs on the outside landing for a refreshing pause. Inside, our room was a short stairs up to the next floor. Breakfast was served in a small restaurant a short distance from the hotel and was very enjoyable with a small menu and a wonderful wait staff. The hotel's location in the Diocletian Palace was perfect. One of the staff always escorted us to the park to meet our guide on excursions.

What a little slice of heaven this place is! A beautiful historic building right in Diocletian’s Palace, it’s a small, very well run hotel with the best service I received in Split. After a delayed flight I arrived around 1am and Ivan, the manager, met me from the taxi and took my bag across all the cobble stones. My room was gorgeous with hand painted and carved ceilings and an original murano chandelier. There are only 5 rooms in the hotel, each beautifully decorated with great high pressure rain shower and Rituals products. Breakfast was a three course meal in a pretty courtyard and was definitely the best food I had in Split. Edita, who is the customer manager was so lovely throughout my stay and both she and Ivan are clearly passionate about customer care. I cannot say enough good things about this place and look forward to returning. Thank you Ivan, Edita and team.

Edita is the consummate manager of a boutique hotel. Her warmth and hospitality makes guests feel like family. Nothing is too much to ask, but she has likely already anticipated your request. Her restaurant recommendations are top notch—tailored to guest’s preferences. There are many 5 star hotels in the world, but the luxury of staying in such an historic property with only 5 rooms is particularly special. Treat yourself and stay here. This hotel deserves 10 stars. Exceptional hotel in a great location. All the employees we met were so nice. We talked to Ivan, Joseph and Edita frequently. They are awesome people. Edita is so charming. She arranged dinner reservations and the service to pick us up from the ferry with our luggage and drop us off at the bus stop when we departed. The rooms were beautifully decorated. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was large with good shower pressure. Even though we were in the Old Town area, we could not hear any noise from the pedestrian streets around the hotel. Breakfast was also included, at Korta restaurant, which was around the corner from the hotel. Allow a solid hour for breakfast. Our first course was a cold plate with prosciutto, cheese and fruit. For the main course you can select one of the 7 different types of egg dishes or Cereal/Muesli with fruit and Yogurt. The Dessert choice had 3 options and they were all fantastic. During our stay we tried all 3. They were Waffles, Hazelnut Croissant (this item is fabulous) and Chocolate Cake. The Croissant and Chocolate Cake were our favorites. Everything was so good! I would highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay here again.

Since cars cannot access the Old Town of Split, Ivan from Hotel Cardo met our driver to carry our bags and escort us to the hotel, which is located about 100 yards from the Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace. (We especially enjoyed being able to easily visit the Peristyle at night after the crowds have thinned.) Upon arrival, we were greeted in the lobby by the lovely Editha, who quickly checked us in and helped us get settled. This 5-room hotel provides an oasis from the tourist crowds, and is beautifully decorated in the Venetian style, with exposed walls that are part of the Palace, and large, triple-paned windows that completely block out the noise. Bed linens were lovely soft cotton, the mattress was comfortable, and the bathroom was large and well-appointed, with high-quality bath products, fluffy towels and bathrobes. We also appreciated the electric kettle and very nice teas. On our first morning, Editha escorted us about thirty steps around the corner from the hotel to the courtyard of the konoba that provides a very tasty, hearty order-from-the-menu breakfast included in the room price. At the end of breakfast, consider splitting the warm hazelnut croissant with cinnamon cream--it was delicious! Both Ivan and Editha were extremely helpful in making recommendations/reservations for us, and did everything to ensure that our stay was thoroughly enjoyable. They could not have been any nicer.

From check in until several hours after check out, the folks at Hotel Cardo were amazing. I never did catch her name, but the woman at the front desk during our stay was so kind and welcoming, happy to assist in any way. She gave excellent suggestions, organized help with our luggage from the car and then to our boat, and was happy to allow us a leisurely check out day. The hotel itself is beautiful and immaculate. It’s likely one of the cleanest hotels I’ve been in. It’s location in the middle of the palace is as convenient as it gets for a tourist, while the quality of the windows block out most of the street noise below. We had no problem at all falling asleep each night. The very comfortable bed certainly helped.

I would not recommend staying at Heritage Hotel Cardo. I booked my reservation a month prior to arrival with the plan to stay in the walls of the city. We did not have phone service when we got to Croatia. We used WhatsApp to communicate. We had a driver who called on our way to check into the hotel to find out where he should drop our bags since the hotel is in a no driving zone. He was informed (all in Croatian)by Ivan, in reception, that our reservations were canceled for the hotel, and we were being placed at another hotel. My driver told him that the guests would not be happy about that. Ivan then requested to speak to me and informed me of this. I requested to be placed at the hotel that I booked. He stated it was not possible because they were overbooked. He noted that they were placing us at a hotel of “same standard” as I had booked. Fermai is the hotel they placed us at, which is NOT the same type as what I booked. It is not in the city walls, it is a 7 minute walk away. While people might not think that to be a big deal, when you are tired late at night, it is nice to just be able to walk into your hotel from the center Square. Also, the decor at Heritage Hotel Cordo has a much more renaissance feel. The decor at hotel Fermai is much more modern, which is exactly what I did not want. The hotel room that we were placed at was also cheaper than what I booked. When I continued to request the room I booked Ivan then lied and said that my reservation was the “last reservation that came in” Mind you, I booked one month ahead. When I told him that, he lied again and said that the computer system “was not working that day(a month ago) and that is why they did not realize they overbooked.” He then said he called my agency that I worked with and notified them of the change earlier that day, as if that automatically makes everything fine.(again i have no cell service in Croatia to receive calls) He knew I was unhappy with the situation, so he asked in an insulting manner “would you like the most expensive room in hotel Fermai” since he must have thought that would assuage me. I responded that “I would not, I would like the room that I booked @ Heriatage Hotel Cordo.” He then said that was not possible again, and HUNG UP the phone on me. Ivan is a rude,unprofessional liar. I would not recommend spending your money at a hotel that has employees who treat guests in such a manner.
