Although we own an apartment in beautiful Saint Gervais, it is currently undergoing refurbishment, and so, on two occasions recently, once with friends and once with my husband (and Max the dog) we’ve chosen to stay at the lovely new Le Saint Gervais Hotel and Spa. Saint Gervais has several hotel options, but none with quite this luxury or quite so modern. Given its location so close to the start of the village (and close to the new télécabine from Le Fayet which has been announced), it is very well placed to capture tourists, and as it is open all year round, both in the summer and winter seasons. There is so much to like about the hotel. It is spotlessly clean; rooms have balconies overlooking the mountains and the town; and the staff are friendly and attentive. The barman Louison deserves a special mention here, showing genuine warmth, welcoming our dog to the hotel, and attempting cocktails “off menu”. The restaurant is not due to open until August this year and so, as others have mentioned, breakfast is currently being served in a function room somewhat devoid of atmosphere. Breakfast itself is ok. Nothing to particularly criticise, nor get excited about either. The vacuum flasks of coffee are awful however!! I hope that once the restaurant is complete that the breakfast offering improves with perhaps coffee, omelettes etc served to order too. Rooms are air conditioned (which was a blessing the weekend we stayed) with fast and efficient wifi throughout the hotel. The spa area is small, and I think the hotel really missed the opportunity for an outside jacuzzi. Aside from a small outdoor pool and some loungers, there isn’t much to report outside. Overall, we loved our time at the hotel, and will be sure to return for drinks, meals, or special occasions even once our own apartment is complete. Thanks everyone!!
This modern hotel built in chalet style is located close to the village and close the ski lift. The staff were excellent especially when there was a problem with the air conditioning which when it came back, they provided a replacement room. I was disappointed that the cost of the spa for guests was so high.
Room size is very small, only for sleep. Service is gd, the staffs r helpful. Restaurant has delicious food. Don’t use their electric water pot! Before I used it, already washed 20+ times. After used it, my stomach got big problem!! That’s really bad in a vacation!
We’ve been travelling around France for a number of weeks now and have stayed at numerous Novotel, most of which have been very good. However I have to say that this is by far the worst one we’ve stayed in. Frankly, whoever the Manager is clearly doesn’t care about this hotel. Time for a change? Firstly, the location is poor, as has been reported in many reviews. The hotel borders the railway lines, and it really doesn’t matter how much double glazing you put on the room windows, it doesn’t drown out the incessant rumbling of trains. Staff - restaurant staff are pretty good and try their best to offer decent customer service, so well done to them. The front desk staff however leave a lot to be desired. The hotel seems to of adopted a ‘we’re young and hip vibe’, and as a result the youngsters on reception really don’t seem to care very much about their job. Smiling and good customer attentiveness seems lost on this lot, it’s more ‘why are you inconveniencing me by asking questions’ type of vibe. If that’s the vibe the manager is trying to create then he/she has been very successful. Gym - truly shocking, filthy dirty and covered in dust, some of the worst gym equipment I’ve ever seen with many pieces completely out of action. Rooms - tired. A vain attempt to jazz them up in recent years that has failed miserably. The whole building looks tired, dirty and it need of demolition if I’m honest. Cafe - two things must be true; firstly there must be a university nearby and secondly there must be free wifi. The result is that the cafe is absolutely packed with students using the free wifi all day and ordering a coffee every eight hours. The result is that hotel guests have nowhere to sit and service is pretty much non existent. Once you do get some service you have to pay for things almost immediately, perhaps given that students are poor payers of their bills? Either way it’s a truly terrible experience. Summary - avoid if you can, one of the worst Novotel in the stable.
NNancy SWe loved that this was so close to the town center, shops and restaurants. The mountain views from the spa terrace were spectacular. The photos of the spa make it look like there is a lap pool. There is a warm tub (not a hot tub) in a solarium with bubbles (not jets) and the pool is meant to cool you off. It's not for swimming. Things that were not great: 1) The carpet in the stairwells was a mess; torn and worn. 2) The hotel does not have air conditioning; it was hot in our room despite the fan they gave us. 3) Breakfast was not that great for 20 euros. 4) There are no ice machines 5) If you are on the street side, there is lots of street noise.
We loved our 4 night stay at the Alpina Eclectic Hotel & Spa. Upon check in, we were upgraded to a balcony room on the 6th floor. Our room was good sized with modern decor and plenty of storage. Comfy bed with soft pillows, slept like a log. There is an area for clothes and cases tucked away behind the main bedroom to keep the room tidy. Separate toilet and bathroom was a bit odd as you have to go into another room to wash your hands but it was fine and we got used to it! Bathroom comes equipped with hairdryer, hand wash, shampoo and shower gel, very nice scent. Reception are happy to provide more toiletries if needed. We used the nespresso coffee machine each morning and the housekeeping staff kept the pods replenished throughout our stay. We really enjoyed the complementary one hour spa session per day. Robes and slippers are provided in the room. The heated ski room was fantastic too. There is a cafe onsite to grab some lunch/drinks and a bon bon sweetie bar in reception to help yourself to a treat on the way in/out of the hotel. The hotel is in a great location with ski bus stops just outside and lots of shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Ski hire shop onsite as well. Staff are friendly and willing to help with any questions or recommendations. We would not hesitate to stay in the Alpina next time we are in Chamonix.
We stayed here for a couple of nights in January. We took the Flixbus from Geneva and arrived into Chamonix around 11:30pm hoping to find a taxi to take us to the hotel. We soon discovered that taxis are pretty non-existent in Chamonix, but were able to take a night bus which dropped us off not too far from the hotel. We arrived at the hotel and despite the late hour were checked in very quickly. We were very impressed with our room- it had very much a 1970s vibe to it, and was a good size with a very comfortable bed, good wi-fi and lots of of storage space. There is a separate toilet and bathroom and both were well maintained. The room overlooked the main road into Chamonix but traffic never disturbed us during our stay. Beyond the road are stunning views of the Alps which were amazing to see on our first morning. There is a large reception area with lots of comfortable seating and a lovely fireplace. It also includes a large flat screen TV showing various sports, a pool table, foosball and a number of arcade games. Together with the young and enthusiastic staff means that unlike many hotels there was always a buzz in the reception area. The hotel has an indoor pool which we made use of during our stay. It is quite small but it was good to relax in after a day of walking. One thing to be aware of though is that the bottom of the pool is curved so if you jump too quickly in you might land sooner than you think and injure yourself. We were on a room-only rate at the hotel and on the first day of our stay went out for breakfast in Chamonix itself. On the second day we paid for breakfast in the hotel (16 Euros each) and were very impressed with the choice and quality of what was offered. The hotel is located around 3 kilometres outside the centre of Chamonix and ideally you would need a car to get round the local area. We didn’t on this occasion and made use of the local bus and train service- there a couple of buses in the morning that depart from outside the hotel, and during the rest of the day you need to walk about 10 minutes to pick up the bus from les Tissieres. Journey time into Chamonix is 15 minutes. The nearest train station is Les Bossons which is about 20 minutes walk away. We enjoyed our short stay at Big Sky and would recommend it when visiting Chamonix.
Les Tresoms Resort is a real gem of a hotel nestled in the perfect spot between outdoor mountain adventure and old world French city splendor. The hotel has such lovely charm with amenities for all the guests to enjoy. We came for a wedding at the resort and the setting, food and service were all fabulous! Our room was so pretty with spectacular views of Lake Annecy and the mountains beyond. We enjoyed an easy walk into Annecy each day and if we had stayed longer (next time!) the trails and bikes on offer would have been fun, too! The pool was lovely for a late afternoon swim with a bit of lounging before enjoying the restaurants at the hotel and in Annecy. A truly lovely part of France that we look forward to exploring more in the years to come. Merci beaucoup!!
