Everything was alright however the room I booked shown on Trip app was a female en-suite room but apparently there’s no female only en-suite room. So may need to clarify for extra confirmation if you mind. Otherwise it’s a good stay

Great location to stay and safe

The ease of being able to check in and out without going to reception is a useful feature (we arrived in good time to see the helpful gentleman on reception to check in). We did not use the full facilities of the lounge and kitchen. The room and bathroom were clean. The room was nicely a presented, comfortable bed and functional for what we needed during our stay in Taupo. We ate at Thai delight, a short walk away and had a lovely meal that came promptly and with good service.

As hostels go it’s a everything you want. Staff are really warm and welcoming. Nice communal areas for everyone to hang out. Beds are comfy. The kitchen are clean too. Awesome location too only a ten minute walk from all the restaurants and shops.

Our twin room was small, but it was mostly functional with good WiFi and a TV. There was no air-conditioner or fan...reception said that fans were allocated on a first come first serve basis. Luckily, we didn't need them with our upper floor windows open. We definitely could've used some hanging hooks and an extra mirror in the room though. No coffee making facilities. Our ensuite bathroom was good, with a body wash dispenser. The carpark didn't have enough spaces, but it was easy and free to park on the street. No elevators, so luggage had to be carried up a flight of stairs to reach the upper floor rooms. Our biggest problem was noise. Our friend in a ground floor room had a poor night's sleep as he could hear people moving around above him, going up and down the wooden stairs right outside his room, people chatting in the communal area till maybe 1 am, and even his neighbour's loud snoring. In our upper floor room, it wasn't as bad, but we were unfortunately right next to one of the hostel's shared toilets. Whenever it was used, the loud bang from that door literally sounded like someone was charging at our own room door, which was highly startling until you get somewhat used to it after awhile. Luckily, this shared toilet wasn't used by anyone after midnight during our stay, and the noise didn't start till about 7am, so we did manage to get some sleep.

Although I had prepaid my stay through *******, the accommodation charged my credit card after I had checked out. I had to contact ******* to get a refund. However, through no fault of mine, I have been hit with a SGD9 (NZD11) loss due to credit card fees and exchange rate conversions for the wrongful deduction and subsequent refund. Because of this, I cannot recommend this hostel.

The hostel was really friendly with good facilites. The kitchen was very kitted out, the beds comfortable and the bathroom clean. Some of the windows wouldn't shut properly, howeever so it did get a little cold, and it would have been nice if they had given my friend an extra blanket.
