泰特伯裏皇家橡樹旅店(The Royal Oak Tetbury)

We went for Sunday lunch and sadly this experience is indicative of the times we are now in .. it’s called less quality .. or can’t be bothered .. or it’s ok they won’t notice .. or better still how to loose custom!! I’ve had in the past Sunday lunch that was really good and I hadn’t been for a while and as per my prediction it was not good at all .. claggy overdone beef .. tasteless veg.. tasteless everything really .. such a shame .. I suggest the chef tastes his dishes before he sends them out .. I shan’t return and will be sure to tell people not to waste their hard earnt money …

Would we stay there again? No. Our room (number 1) was tiny and smelt really badly of drains. We told the cleaner who had noticed the issue herself (hard not to!) and she promised to sort it but when we came back 10 hours later it still stank. At this point it was 11pm so nothing we could do and there was no one around to ask. The smell kept us awake all night and we couldn’t wait to get out of the room for breakfast, but unfortunately we then had another problem. They were out of granary bread for the husband’s scrambled eggs on toast so we had to provide our own. Luckily we had some bread in the car. These things happen I guess but there was no apology and a bit of a take it or leave it approach. My Eggs Benedict was not very good - tasteless muffin and the sauce tasted like it had come from a large catering pack. We raised the matter of the drain with the receptionist but he didn’t apologise - just a “thanks for letting me know” - and no suggestion they give us a discount for the issue. There was just no sincerity or any attempt to engage with us as the customers. Can’t believe we spent £160 on this experience. Certainly isn’t one we will repeat or would recommend to others!

We met with 11 family members for a 12 p clock quick light meal where my niece and disabled brother were staying, before heading off to nearby Westonbirt having travelled from different parts of the country. My niece had given our preorders as requested. 2 people were quite late but we were happy to start as they only ordered sandwiches. Sandwiches were thrown together with no butter or spread. We were squashed in the corner of the pub possibly because of wheelchair access. Over 2 hours later most of what we ordered arrived slowly one plate at a time. Several orders were not correct, arrived twice or not at all. No one seemed to take charge to sort out the shambles. When the bill arrived there were items we hadn't had and a service charge we decided not to pay and what we had was very poor value for money. It was too late then to go to Westonbirt.

We left and went elsewhere because the room was very dark, like a little cell, and noisy with other rooms above, doors banging etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub itself looked nice inside but we didn't stay long enough to experience. I hope ******* will give us back some of our money. Fern and Bob Ogley

Entered the twilight zone! Waited an hour for lunch even with reservations, completely ignored by staff. No customer service. Felt like an inconvenience to ask for anything. Highlights of our visit: - Being told there was table service and someone would be right back to take our drinks order. Didn't happen. Had to go get our own drinks. - Ordering extra roast potatoes to replace Yorkshire pudding for gluten free guest. Later being told we could only have what we ordered. Walked past kitchen to see waitresses eating roast potatoes! - Gravy shortage for a Sunday roast, unbelievable. - Waitress asked us if everything was OK with our meal, we advised it was 'fine' given all the restrictions we'd experienced. We were clearly not happy as a group. No effort made to investigate or provide better service. - The cherry on top, an excited gluten free member of our party ordering the crumble, see attached picture. Soggy fruit topped with burnt mixed nuts? We couldn't believe it. - Later realised we'd been overcharged as we'd paid a deposit for our booking. - Waitresses entitled, grumpy, wrong attitude for service. - When paying £16 for a nutroast and a few small veggies, you expect better trea**ent. Provided feedback as we paid the bill, offered 1 free drink for a party of 8. When we called for our deposit refund,and spoke to a manager we asked for our £30 service charge to be returned given our experience, which it was. Stay at home and make your own roast!!!

Fab location, beautiful old pub, very friendly staff, fairly local to us - however, I ordered the fish & chips, found the meagre amount of chips underneath the fish, most were inedible, Fish dry & more batter than fish, at the price they charge I would have expected more, very basic. Our guests asked for bread to accompany their salad & were told no bread - despite it being on the menu as a side order. Not impressed.

We stayed for three nights during the recent hot weather and found our room to be very warm. There was a fan which was on a wind-up timer, maximum two hours, so we were getting up through the night to reset it. The room, number one, is charming but quite compact with small windows as befits an old property, but making it dark even in the sunshine. All the rooms overlook the courtyard which is full of tables, so there is a constant flow of people walking past the open window. As the weather was so fine there were lots of people eating and drinking outside and, especially on the Friday night, it was quite noisy. Breakfasts were like the curate's egg, good in parts. I am not a fan of cooked breakfast and prefer yogurt with fruit and, while staying in a hotel, a croissant or two. As these were not on offer I had a poached egg one day and scrambled egg with smoked salmon the other days. All excellent, but you really cannot toast small slices of sourdough bread as they turn out as hard as roof tiles and as inedible. The Royal Oak is well situated a few minutes' walk into Tetbury and the main road running by it is not too busy or noisy at night. We did enjoy our stay and were made welcome by the friendly and helpful staff.

Frankly a little disappointed with Sunday lunch. We choose the pork which was a little tough and completely tasteless. The roast potatoes looked delicious but were undercooked. We didn't have a starter but there were few choices, ditto the puddings. Sadly, the waitress didn't seem to know her job and appeared distracted - a training issue for the management, I think.

We tried to book Sunday lunch but unfortunately had no response on phone, just the message and no one responded to the our email either. Very disappointing. We had no choice but to book somewhere else
