Old pub with atmosphere and great staff, food, room and brilliant value deal on Sunday night with dinner deal. Late Sunday lunch was lovely, good choices of beer, cocktails and on the wine list. Breakfast good too with lots of choice, - will be back.

Really lovely inn where we stayed for a night. Delicious dinner and breakfast with excellent service. We had roast dinners, which were generous sizes; there is a good wine menu and tasty cocktails too. We were well looked after by Dominic and Nick

Such a comfy, welcoming, stylish hotel. We had a real treat of a stay. Cosy restaurant with open fire was just what we needed after a long drive down and we slept deeply in the comfortable bed. The room had everything you might want for a short stay - good hairdryer, nice soaps and shampoo/bathfoam. Although there is no phone reception there is wifi and the tv in the room allowed us to login to Netflix etc.

We’ve just had a great couple of days at the King John Inn. Very comfortable room, excellent food and drink, super friendly staff, what more could we ask? Thank you everyone at the pub. Would definitely recommend the King John Inn to friends and family.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay - the breakfasts were excellent and everyone was very friendly but we had some reservations: We were originally booked into a first floor room but the steps from the bar are very narrow and steep which my wife could not manage. The alternative route via an external fire escape was not acceptable on a cold, damp dark February night. We were therefore offered a courtyard room which was newly decorated to a high standard but the lighting was so minimal that we had to use torches to read. I asked for a standard lamp but none was available so from the hours of 5pm to 11pm we lived in darkness. The in-house wifi worked well in the pub but the signal was often lost in our courtyard room so we often had to go in to the main building to log in to the Butcombe site, and re-enter all our details again . The room lighting and the wifi are issues that can be rectified but the difficult access to the rooms in the main building is a major obstacle - if the courtyard room had not been available we would have had to try to find somewhere else.

Our third stay here and a beautiful room as ever, super comfy bed and a lovely roll top bath and walk in shower. The breakfast was superb and evening meal we had the night before was wonderful, well done to all the team for making it a great experience again, have recommended to clients an d friends

Three nights at the King John inn was not enough. The location,the venue,the accommodation,the cuisine and the ambience were all “ spot on “ as was the attentiveness and the “ nothing is too much trouble “ attitude of the staff. AND, add to the mix the fringe benefits of being Butcombe Loyalty Club members.without question,enhanced our whole experience. Brian & Margaret . ( two very contented customers)

Lovely pub welcoming environment very enjoyable meal. Very friendly staff who took our order and expedited our food to the table with minimal fuss. Food was great and we all commented how we would definitely be come back for another meal. Thanks

Celebratory birthday dinner with family. Food was very good. My main wasn’t very hot…was changed without fuss however, second main had gravy. As I don’t take gravy this was quickly rectified…fresh main on the table, apology by way of removing cost from final bill. Service fantastic evening saved!

A real gem. Very welcoming staff, high quality accommodation and superb cuisine. Tucked away in a tiny village on the Wiltshire and Dorset border it's a lovely base for exploring the area or for events at the nearby wedding venue. Warm in winter and has a garden with a view during summer.

I took my father and my partner for Fathers Day lunch. We should have had serrated knives for the chewy venison and not medium rare beef. Beef was no way near pink at all. It’s not on. The Yorkshire pudding I had was burnt. As I was taught never serve someone something you wouldn’t eat yourself. And then the chef served more burnt Yorkshire’s as they were held under the lights on the pass. Trust me I saw it. So for a lunch and drinks for £125 you didn’t see fit to cook fresh Yorkshires for the other diners so they had a better experience? Service was a little mixed. Lots of staff and then one staff. Hospitality is a very tricky area. I get that. I’m disappointed and that’s sad

The king John well what can I say ! A lovely warm welcome by all staff , which I can say they were all out standing, especially the young tall lad with glasses that served our table. The manger was also outstanding making sure everything was ok . The food was absolutely delicious and we all had our food served together no waiting around , I must say complement’s to the chef , Evan outside draws your attention, I recommend the king John to all my friends and family , well done to all for a lovely evening x

Stopped for lunch at the King John during a walk from Win Green. Lovely food and great service from Jules. Good veggie options and can also highly recommend the mini doughnuts as a mini pudding. With a coffee gave us the information to get back up the hill ! .

An excellent stay here in the middle of a walking trip. The welcome was friendly and helpful, good selection of beers and great decor and furnishing inside. The bedroom was quiet, comfortable and fairly well equipped (apart from no milk or cups for hot drinks). A delicious and well above average (choice and quality) breakfast was served with a smile. Well done
