斯萊特松德爾酒店(Sonder the Slate)

We enjoyed the walk-able location to our venues for the weekend. The property itself left something to be desired. We could hear our neighbours through the walls. There were no extra linens and when we asked the cleaning lady we were told no. The room has drywall cracking, ceiling tiles falling down and lightbulbs that need replacing in very dark areas of the room. Bathroom doors were almost too heavy to open. Floors and carpets needed a good cleaning, our socks were filthy after 1 night of walking around. There were no extra bed linens for the pull out couch. Full size Kitchen was spacious and well stocked with plates, cups, kettle, etc. which allowed us to bring some of our food to save on costs.

Location de l'hôtel est super. Une chambre moderne et très bien tenue. Un lit tres confortable. Points négatifs: (1) une douche qui coule toujours même lorsque je veux prendre un bain, (2) un seul service de serviettes même si nous étions là pour 4 soirs, (3) boîte de mouchoirs vide et pas de remplacement. Même si j'ai demandé d'avoir de nouvelles serviettes, elles ne sont jamais arrivées.

This is a boutique hotel where there are no people working. I booked this hotel with *******, and thank God I did so. I had a booking for this hotel 2 months in advance. I pre checked into this hotel 24 hours in advance, on line. I had to supply all personal information (D/L, credit card) to do so, with facial pictures with side views uploaded into their system. I was on my flight from Calgary to Toronto when an email was sent by *******. My room was canceled by the Hotel. ******* made at least 2 attempts to get in touch with me. The hotel....nothing. No phone call. When I arrived, the Sonder The Slate emailed me...I was canceled. No reason. It was almost sent as if by a lawyer, and not implying any liability to them. I had to scramble with a series of calls to ******* to find me a room. ******* was AMAZING with their response, albeit I had to make a few calls. I was upgraded. And, I sure hope that Sonder The Slate was back charged for the significant delta in cost. I had no increase in my cost, fortunately, for this late minute, rack rate location of new accommodation. Why did Sonder The Slate cancel me? There was no emergency. My counterpart who did not pre register for the room did have a stay there. There was no hotel emergency. He had to wait 4 hours till a real person arrived at the hotel. I will never stay at a Sonder hotel. This is what happens at a "high tech business model" hotel where you people are not the core of your business.

Very clean and convenient accommodation. The communication with the staffs was a bit difficult since there were not any staffs staying and no reception there. They offer the online 24/7 communication, but seems like those online staffs are not familiar with the neighborhood, so that they gave us wrong informations several times. No-contact check in / out was convenient, but we felt unsafe to type the passcode at the entrance of the building which located to the public road and probably people behind us could see the code. Same code was used for the opening the door at our unit, so means if someone want to sneak into the unit, it would be possible. That process supposed to be cut off if I could use the Bluetooth of my phone, and the App said it’s set up perfectly, but unfortunately the Bluetooth system didn’t work. Hope they’ll improve their system.

The location of this property is just so convenient. You can walk down to almost any of the tourist attractions in Downtown Toronto. CN Tower, Rogers, Ripley’s, and the shopping street (queen street) is just at the walking distance. We got a free upgrade (because our initially booked room wasn’t available) and the suite was just so amazing. Thank you for making our experience nothing less than memorable!

Be careful when walking in the building we noticed that a lot of homeless people follow behind you pretending to be there. Our first night there a lady was drugged out sitting in the lobby passed with her pants pulled dow. A guy tried to follow us and and then tried to open up the door to our room. Also It wast cleaned all the way. The shower curtain had stains all around it and our pillowcases had stains on them. Other than that it was good

Firstly, we’ve never been to a no front-desk hotel before so we thought there would be someone to help us (sorta like a back up plan maybe?) since we tried checking in from home but their app was giving issues. Upon arrival, we realized that we messed up big time because we had to complete the at home app setup to be given an access code for the building, luckily another guest let us into the lobby because it’s winter. I could go on an extensive rant about how insincere, unhelpful and quick to cancel your stay the Sonder phone representatives are but God Bless Issy, one of their workers who was probably just minding their business. Issy sat with us in their lobby, and was extremely patient, understanding and he even gave us oreos since we were starting to get hangry lol. After Issy saved the day, there was literally nothing we could complain about, we had no choice but to unwind in the biggest tub we’ve ever seen and bring in my Wife’s birthday properly. Our godfairy Issy even managed to catch us before we left and honestly, we just hope that angel gets the recognition they deserve. Beautiful place, clean, quiet and the perfect place to get away in the middle of the city.

Amazing location and using the app to get in and out of the building/room or communicate to Sonder when needed was a breeze. The room was chic and clean. Would definitely stay again!

The room was exactly as advertised and overall my stay was very good. The only very complaint would be that my shower /tub was a bit wonky and the shower curtain wouldn’t budge. Very minor issues, really.
