You stay here for the location. The hotel has a long history and there are parts which indicate this, however if the bed is comfortable and the sleep is good, then these are things to be overlooked. Situated at the lower end of the main street, the hotel has easy access to the river, shops, restaurants and the castle. Just across the road is the bus stop if you want to travel further afield and not wish to move your car from the hotel car park.

We ate at the restaurant yesterday after booking a table. When we arrived, the restaurant was quite empty, but they seem to find it hard to get a table for us. The staff seem to be quite new. The drinks were served quite quickly and then it became apparent that other customers were having various issues Which caused a little bit of unrest. The starters came quite quickly and were delicious. I had halloumi and I can also vouch for the soup being delicious. The main courses took quite a while to come and I had the roast turkey which was again delicious as where the vegetables.I’m not sure whether there has been a change of management, but it didn’t come across as many people knew what they were doing and the restaurant was by no means full. This could be an amazing place but really need to sort out the staffing or management.

For me, this worked out great. I got there on a Sunday and the pub had a very nice Sunday roast. Room was very spacious, first floor on the courtyard, nice bathroom. Lovely little graveyard by the church tower turned out to be my favorite place to spend time and have a few drinks. The next night the pub was strangely all booked up for food - online reservations only (?) but I didn't see or hear anyone while I was drinking a bottle of mead out back. Not sure if this is the kind of thing others have run into or if it was truly booked. I'd say this is the kind of place you want to go in the high season because it's more likely the various facilities will be fully operational.
