During my recent stay at La Valises in Tulum, I encountered a significant issue that severely impacted my overall experience. I was provided a rollaway mattress in my room, which, to my dismay, turned out to be infested with bed bugs. I had no idea. This led to numerous bites all over my feet, stomach, and ankles, initially mistaken for mosquito bites. As the situation worsened, with the bites appearing increasingly abnormal, I approached the front desk for assistance. Unfortunately, my concerns were dismissed, and my request to change beds was not taken seriously. The front desk guy told me that my bites were not bed bugs but I asked him to still change my bed. He did (which was nice). The staff, without any medical expertise, seemed to downplay the severity of the issue. After I got back to LA, it was pure torture. The bites were growing into welts. It was the worst experience of my life. The itching was driving me insane. At one point, I had to get prescription steroids to stop itching and take antihistamines. And sleeping pills because I couldn’t fall asleep or stay asleep. My legs are scarred now, and I pray that it will go away because they look disgusting. This experience not only marred my vacation but also resulted in a week of intense discomfort post-vacation due to itchiness, and I am still dealing with scars on my legs. The response from the hotel management was equally disheartening; they were unhelpful and refused to offer any form of compensation or even a partial refund. They also showed me some fumigation or paperwork from a bed bug expert that stated there was no sign of bed bugs. I am deeply disappointed and disgusted by the lack of concern and assistance from La Valises. It’s regrettable that a place with such potential failed to address such a critical health and hygiene issue appropriately. I hope my experience serves as a caution to others considering a stay here. I would not recommend staying here because the staff doesn’t care about their guests.
