We had an upgrade and the room was excellent. The reception was extremely friendly and helpful. It lid just within minutes of walk to the fisherman’s wharf and beacon hill garden.

Stayed at James Bay Inn on a return visit for 6 nights, and found it very comfortable. It is a three storey hotel without an elevator. but staff are very quick to help with suitcases if needed. The property is well kept, clean and convenient to the Inner Harbour area of Victoria. The restaurant is very good with good service, and so is the bar, where food items from the restaurant are available after the restaurant itself has closed. If you don't mind the stairs, we recommend it highly.

This hotel is always charming, location is great, lots of room for the price, caring staff. Kitchen stocked with salt and pepper and cooking oil, unusual in a hotel. Be prepared for quirks of an old hotel: no elevator, few and inconveniently placed electric outlets, unpredictable heating, but they provide a space heater; dim lighting in bedroom because sustainability? Anyway 60 watt bulbs, had to take shade off lamp to be able to read. All that said, it’s great and feels like home in James Bay. Plus the pub is in a pleasant 1970s time warp re music and local patrons of a certain age, all friendly and fun plus very good food in pub and restaurant.

Fantastic heratige hotel. We have been staying here when we visit Victoria for over 10 years now. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Victoria, the staff are awesome. The food in the restaurant and pub is first class and the cost is almost half of what you will pay in town.

The JBI is a beautiful Hotel, the value is unmatched in Victoria. The only problem I had, was the heat was not turned on yet for the season and the weather dipped it near zero, so the 1st night was quite chilly, however it was resolved for the next night. Will definitely return.

This hotel has no air conditioning and no elevators. I did find, buried in the details, that they stated no elevators. But there is nothing explicitly stating no air conditioning. The windows opened, but there were no screens to keep bugs out. It was also not super clean. The carpet was worn and looked dirty. The linens were reminiscent of a 1970s motel--scratchy and rough. We did not want to stay and asked for a refund to go elsewhere. The manager said we could get a refund thru *******. However, when we went through *******, he refused to refund us. We stayed elsewhere regardless.

Very nice older Hotel/Inn, the grounds and hotel were well kept. Beautiful garden with flowers in bloom. The staff was very helpful, especially with my luggage since there is no elevator and many stairs to climb. We had a very nice one night stay, Thank You.

I didn’t like the scaffolding outside my window. It made me feel uncomfortable. As well no blinds in the bathroom. The bottom part of the window was frosted but not the top. Although no one could see in at that height, it made me feel vulnerable.
