I’ve always loved staying at The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown—great rooms, excellent service. I had a perfect two-night stay earlier this week, but unfortunately, my recent return was a bit of a letdown. The hotel is upgrading their thermostats, which now limits air circulation once the set temperature is reached. So if you’re like me and prefer constant airflow (on low, med, or high), the system just switches to auto no matter what. It’s pretty uncomfortable when you’re sweating in bed and have to keep kicking off the blankets. This is a pretty big change and definitely a bummer for anyone who likes their room cool at night. As a repeat guest, I’m disappointed that even the basics can’t be relied on anymore.

The lobby has a horrid, overwhelming chemical odor which caused my wife to pass out when we checked in. For the balance of our stay, we had to avoid the lobby and the amenities therein, and take a circuitous route to our room involving stairs up and down and around and so forth. When I asked the manager what the scent was, she told me this was “Ritz’s Signature Scent” which was supposed to resemble something like “Redwood Forest.” It actually more closely resembled being stuck in a taxi with those pine-shaped deodorizers, if there were 100 of them instead of just one. She also told me the scent was piped in 24-7, and nothing could be done about it. Low class.

Worst “Ritz” experience I have ever had in my career. Rooms are nice but the gym and restaurant are so bad. Marriott is destroying the Ritz brand
