We checked into the Zanzibar Beach Resort over Eid weekend. We had a little 2-night stay, which was much needed. Working in the hotel industry myself, I generally pre-book my rooms if I have an early arrival so I can get into my room early morning. That went a bit south even though I did send a message saying I booked a night before to be able to get in the room prior to check-in time. That message was acknowledged. We arrived at the hotel at 7:00 AM or so and were told my booking was cancelled. I denied the claim and showed the messages that were exchanged. Then I was told that the hotel was fully booked and my room was not available until later. I mentioned that that is also not right because I was supposed to have my room the previous day. I finally got a temporary room at a lower category but was still charged for the previous night at the same rate as my ocean view chalet. That was a bit disappointing. Late check-out was then also charged for. Two people I would like to highlight though are Maureen, the Housekeeping Manager, who did a beautiful set up in our room for us and really personalized the service. When I told her I liked Ugali and it reminds me of a food we eat at home too, she immediately grabbed Chef Aggrey who came to sit with us for a little bit. Both Maureen and Chef Aggrey did make the overall stay experience better for us and that was very much appreciated.
