Rooms are very dated and the bathroom had a terrible damp smell. Food was average and not great. The landlady was very friendly but continued to clean up around us whilst we were having breakfast. Unless you really need to stay in the area I would avoid. Not a good experience for two tired walkers.

The rooms are a tad basic but clean and very comfortable. They were also made available to us ahead of the check-in time which was appreciated. The hard-working landlady was doing everything she could do to keep guests happy including helping with us with bags to our rooms and giving us some snacks so we could make an early start the next morning. We had an excellent dinner in the evening in the nice spacious dining room.

I don't believe reviews at all, the food is average at best, the Pub interior is a little better than a junk shop, the room at £100 is double what it aught to be. What view over the Moors? My view was over a flat roof covered in piles of rubbish and scrap chairs. I would not stay there again if I was paid to.

Within minutes of arriving I felt as if this B&B should be my local pub. Lovely welcome and nothing was too much bother. Bedroom view over Yorkshire Moors was exactly what I wanted. So peaceful, yet the railway station is 100 yards away, as is the must see Romantic Bridge. Food portions are huge,and delicious. Clean and comfy room. I'm definitely returning. Thanks to all the staff for everything. Even the packed lunch for my early start wasn't a problem and left outside my door. See you next year.

Had Sunday lunch and wow it was well worth it, the gravy alone was worth the trip. The staff are excellent, the landlady couldn't be more helpful and welcoming, well worth the trip. The pub is great for walkers wanting a bite to eat once they have explored the moors

It’s just not good enough for the price. As much as the landlord was nice, the price was way too high for the standard of accommodation, breakfast and service. Mold in the bathroom did not compensate for the new carpet. Evening meal was really poor for the money as well. The bar was ok and the locals friendly. It’s a big no from me I’m afraid.

Very good location for visiting North Yorks Moors Railway and near direct railway line to Whitby. Good base also for exploring North York Moors generally. a nice local country pub. Room was very clean and comfortable with well stocked coffee and tea. Food was very good and if any problems these were quickly resolved. The hosts and other staff were very friendly and amenable. A lovely place to stay.

On the plus side, best beer (Legend) I had on my N Yorks Moors walking trip. And great location in beautiful area, perfect for getting train back to Darlington. But the rooms are basic, the food including breakfast (a sixties throwback) average. And the ‘welcome’ we received was… let’s say quirky. But generally the staff were friendly.
