Lovely and helpful staff, we were late check in’s; but they were able to help get us in quickly, and the chef was happy to accommodate 2 more meals for the evening! Adore how well they have kept the history of the building; the food and room was great value for money. Brekky could be improved.

Had been wanting to stay for years and what a fantastic place it is. Dog-friendly, brilliant staff and amazing food. Slept like logs through storm Kathleen. Breakfast area has view of Lakeland 100/Lakeland trails 100k route up to/from Garburn Pass. Would guess is mile and a half/two to Kentmere Horseshoe route…. Just check weather before!

Always brilliant... A great Lakes Pub. I took the barmans advice and went for the Game Pie which was simply outstanding. The staff are always so welcoming here and it's in a stunning location in the valley. It feels like a special place to visit time and time again. Be back soon.

We had a lovely two day break at the Mortal Man. The hotel is extremely clean, the room was slightly on the small side but was totally adequate for our break and made all the better by having a fabulous view. The staff were all very pleasant and hard working with a special mention for Tommy and Celeste who work in the bar and restaurant. The evening menu is limited but we had different meals on each night and they were very well presented and so tasty, much better than traditional pub fayre. We had a great time here and came away well relaxed. Thank you all for the hospitality and hopefully we will be back in future.

Popped in for lunch while we were staying nearby, we all had different things off the menu, all was really good. Really nice bar and restaurant area, fantastic views over the valley, friendly staff... We stayed a while had a few drinks, played a few games that they had, chess, draughts, darts, nice walk back, perfect rainy day afternoon.

Lovely Old Worlde place to stay with great staff and great food. Beatiful views from our room and very dog friendly. With a choice of walks into Ambleside which take approx. 1.5 hours each way, it's a perfect location. We will definately return.

If you are lucky enough to have both Tommy and Celeste on duty. You will have a blast. Both are absolute professionals and great fun too. These two work tirelessly to make your meal a memory, the food too is “Pub” but Good Pud, we have been three times this week and every time they were the same, we did try a pub close-by called the Queens Head but that is so up on itself I wouldn’t bother again, stupid prices for awful pub grub. But the Mortal man is one to go back to, excellent wine and proper ales too. Well done Tommy you made us laugh and so doggy friendly.🤣

This review follows on from a review left by my wife as a result of a canceled reservation due to the hotel having technical difficulties. 18/19 March 2024. Sara, just to clarify. We were not rude to your staff and actually had very little conversation with her, when we arrived she was in the room at the end of the corridor and appeared to be eating something, shouted through that you were shut. When we said that we had a reservation and had traveled down from Glasgow she said that she would get a manager. That’s when you then arrived. If anyone was rude it was not us, at one point I very nearly hit record on my phone as I could not believe what I was hearing, I wish now I had. Having worked in the hospital industry myself, if that’s how you treat your customers I’m surprised you still have a business at all. As for sending 4 emails, my daughter-in-law who booked the voucher has had no email and has tried to contact you and has emailed you but you have not responded. We both obviously have our own opinion of how we were treated, if you had actually sent 4 emails do you think we would have traveled all the way from Glasgow? Don’t think so! We ended up booking alternative accommodation ourselves as you said not prepared to help. We ended up having a lovely couple of days in Windermere where we booked at short notice. The host was so helpful and accommodating (he could teach you a thing or too, I could put you in touch if you like. Oh forgot you don’t reply to emails.) Anyway I think by reading reading other reviews we had a lucky escape but I’ll leave it to others to come to their own conclusions but I know we will NOT be back.

Travelled from Glasgow to stay for 2 nights to be told that the hotel was closed due to a problem with the heating and hot water. Manager insisted emails had been sent cancelling our reservation, but we weren’t contacted. So rude. Won’t return.
