We have been here a few times now but this weekend being our first actual stay. We had our evening meal which was totally amazing. A really lovely pub to use, very friendly and helpful staff. The pub is very busy so we recommend booking to avoid the fine food served, breakfast was just amazing. The room was lovely and clean, warm and stylish, we had a good night’s sleep. Definitely one to come back for.

We had room 5 which should never be used for B&B. It was up some very precarious stairs in what look like a converted loft. The ceiling sloped right down to hip height so most of the time you are bent over! On a good note, the bed was comfy and the room was clean apart from the window ( see photos) I know it’s an old building but some sort of repair could be done. It made the room damp. The fridge was on a wooden crate, yes really! The ensuite tiny but functional but decay around shower cubicle. When I complained I was told we only paid the low price (£100) well we wouldn’t have paid £50 for that room. The chair was wasted as if you sat on it you had to bend double. Dinner was average. Staff were polite and friendly especially our waitress from Wisconsin. Breakfast was fine but no offer of juice or water, or cereal etc. The cooked breakfast was plenty though but no offer of tea refill. If you decide to stay here request NOT to have room 5.

Disappointed. The rooms were expensive for what they were. In two days my wife and I banged our heads on the ceiling at least half a dozen times each, and we are neither over 5ft 8. Access to the room was up a very narrow and winding stair case. You could call it quaint if you wanted, but I could not recommend it to anyone over 6 foot, or anyone with mobility issues, or a large suitcase. With it being an old building noise travelled between floors. Breakfast does not start until 9 o'clock, so hard luck if you want to get off early, although there is a nice sandwich shop round the corner. Parking is an issue, there is parking spaces outside the pub, if you are lucky, but there are parking meters - we almost got caught out - between 8am and 6pm, so despite breakfast at 9, you have to be outside before 8 to buy a ticket - no return in 4 hours. The only good news is parking is very reasonable - £1 for 2 hours. Breakfast was very good and service from the young lady was efficient, friendly and prompt. I would not say I would not stay here again, but I certainly would look at B&B options first

In the past had some great visits to this pub. Went on a Friday night and could not believe that it was almost deserted and that they had no real ales on. Food experience was poor. The homemade steak and ale pie was a processed pie whose home was many miles from Woodstock and the salads served were almost uneatable. In this age of rising prices the effort shown here to attract customers again was non existent. My advice is save your money

Deeply unfriendly bar staff and landlord/manager, no bar snacks, overtly rude in every interaction. Won't be coming here again any time soon. After leaving, walked across road to King's Arms and found really friendly warm welcome there.

We visited for lunch yesterday, but boy do we wish we had chosen somewhere else. The steak & ale “pie of the day” at £16.50 consisted of a pale, soggy, microwaved Pukka Pie style thing, with a sloppy beige filling the texture of baby food, and not a piece of steak to be found. Accompanying this delight were a tiny handful of chips and some cold, undercooked kale. Along with this delightful cold greenery, my partner had a small ball of packet mash and two sausages (he did say these tasted ok) , also overpriced. They had the nerve to add a 12.5% service charge for these culinary delights. Do your self a favour, eat elsewhere.

A very disappointing visit to a pub we have been several times before. A real shame to see standards have slipped so badly. We ordered a pie and a burger. These dishes were ‘pub grub’ at best, something you would expect to pay about £6 for not £16.50 and £17 respectively. These are ‘gourmet pub’ prices. The meals finally arrived taking over 40 minutes. The pie was extremely average with little meat in it and the burger was burnt and had to be sent back. The new one, when it arrived, was very cheap meat and tasteless and topped with undercooked bacon and congealing cheese in a bland white bun. Again, fine I suppose for ‘pub grub’ but not for £17. Hopefully, this pub can return to its previously high standards as it is a very nice pub in an ideal location or, I guess, custom will drop quite rapidly.

Very friendly staff made our experience ( me, son and two doggies) near perfect. Great real ales ( Sharps Doom-bar was most welcome). We asked about the lunch menu at which point a most wonderfully pleasant guy called Callum described the excellent specials in particular the pies, offered our dogs water and could not have been more helpful. He is a huge credit to this pub/restaurant and made us feel welcome as individuals. The two steak pies were superb, general banter fab and we left with every intention of returning. Well done Callum!

We stopped here after looking around for somewhere to eat. The gorgeous young lady was brilliant and very welcoming. The food was ok and the rest of the family had a great meal. I ordered a pie with mashed potatoes and mixed greens. The only thing I would charge is thicker gravy and served it on my he side.

I love this restaurant/pub and I absolutely love the manager. However, as a project manager I know that one bad egg can ruin a potentially good situation/business. I complained last week about a member of staff who was shouting at other staff and was confrontational with myself. I spoke to the manager who assured me she would not let that happen again. She also agreed and acknowledged there were some recent really bad reviews on TripAdvisor and that the staff member had received other bad reports. Again tonight he confronted me which caused me to leave. and making other punters feel awkward.. It is such a shame when one bad egg can bring an establishment down .., even when they have been warned.

We stayed at this hotel during Nocturne Live. Having booked the hotel more than a year in advance I was a little surprised to be allocated the very small attic room which is up some tricky stairs and it was so incredibly hot. We were there in a heatwave, granted, but the small window hadn’t even been left open and being right at the top of the building with the heat rising, it was unbearable. There was a small air con unit which was switched on as we entered the room but it had its work cut out and I think it probably wasn’t man enough for the job in those conditions. I wasn’t even able to get ready properly as it was just so hot on there and we needed to get out. When we left the hotel and walked into the 31 degree heat outside we cooled down and stopped sweating so I dread to think what the temperature was in the room. The room itself was small and the shower was a bit grubby. The tap on the bathroom sink was also not properly attached. Be aware that the hotel doesn’t have its own parking and from what I saw most of the bays around town were restricted to three hours. We were lucky to find some street parking slightly out of the centre. It was particularly busy when we were there due to Nocturne being held at Blenheim. As for the positives, the building is lovely and the bar/restaurant area was nice. The bed was comfy, food was nice and the staff were really pleasant.

Two night stay for Blenheim Palace Triathlon. Good location in central Woodstock External impressions good but when taken to rooms very messy and restricted access. Rooms 2 & 3 on first floor, clean but basic. TV’s not working and no cleaning on second night. Generally not good value and staff and manager socially inept

My wife and I booked to go there Nov last year for three nights and when we were shown the room it was not the photos that were on the website it was disgusting to say the least it even had sour milke in the fridge so it had not been cleaned properly, refund refused, stay away.
