Charge into a feverish palette where gods mixed colors, letting the waves of rainbow hills swallow you whole. Layers of ochre, cream, and indigo rock blaze under the sun, their wind-carved textures rippling like vast silk scrolls. The roar of helicopter blades sweeps over this earthly palette, while sandstone crunches softly underfoot during hikes. This surreal visual feast makes you question whether you have left Earth behind.

Zhangye, China

Zhangye, China

The flight here from Beijing was a little long (and my tour cost wayyyyy too much) other wise this could have been a day trip. I made it a weekend trip instead. Spend the first day roaming around town, not a bad town but you can smell the farms near by. There were some really beautiful temples, I didn't get to go into all because of Covid but I also picked up a weird-o and I decided i was better off skipping the temple if it meant I could get away from him. Hate when that happens. The next day I got up early to go see the rainbow mountains, not as bright as some of those edited photos but still amazing. Then we drove out to the grottoes. They really are amazing, being built into the mountain like that before we had the equipment we have now. Warning though if you go prepare your self for heights and small spaces, I got no warning at all.

A Taste of Home 🇨🇳🇵🇭

👩‍🍳Mei Wei Mei Ke Restaurant in Zhangye City 📍Address: Oishi Street, Ganzhou District, Zhangye City This restaurant is perfect for me. I love the taste of the pork. I felt like I was transported to my home country. The taste and almost all the ingredients they use to prepare it are exactly how we prepare our pork adobo. The soup is also very delicious. This is my new favorite restaurant in Zhangye. You will enjoy not only the food but also the place which gives you a different experience. 🤑💵💸The food is also very affordable and you can eat here with only 100 RMB. Do not forget to visit this place when you are in Zhangye. #Zhangyecity #China #goodfoods #gansuprovince #citytravel #foodie #Restaurant #chinesefood #Porkadobo

Wetland Park in Zhangye,China 🇨🇳

#wecreate If you have extra days in Zhangye after visiting the colorful Danxia mountains then I suggest you go to this place before you continue your trip around China. It is such a massive area which offers scenics views , different activities and if you just want to walk around then no problem because walking paths are available which conveniently takes you anywhere within the park. We didn't even realized that we walked too far already. By the way, this national wetland park doesn't have an entrance fee. There are two ways to enjoy the park. 1. Rent a bicycle so you can just bike around the area. 2. There's a buggy but you have to pay as well PS. We got sunburnt so cover yourself with sunscreen. Enjoy your Zhangye trip #mytripvlog #tripblazers #china #zhangye #nationalpark

Silk Road gateway : Zhang Ye

Silk Road gateway : Zhang Ye

I believe many people have never been to a city in China called Zhangye. If you ask me what Zhangye is like, I’d say it’s a gateway on the Silk Road, filled with hidden surprises. There, you can experience sudden snowfall in the mountains, explore rolling sand dunes, and discover charming, locally-inspired cafes and unexpected sights. This city is rich in ethnic character and natural beauty. Best of all, it’s not crowded, so you can set your own pace, embracing a slower, poetic lifestyle steeped in local culture. When you’re tired, just settle into a cozy cafe for a coffee break. One day, you could explore the mountains; the next, marvel at the stunning colors of the Rainbow Mountains, which look beautiful from every angle. The most delightful surprise? They even have sand dunes here. To truly understand the meaning of the Silk Road, a stop in Zhangye is essential on your travel journey.

Zhangye Ganzhou Ancient Tower

Zhangye Ganzhou Ancient Tower

The Ganzhou ancient tower in Zhangye is a fusion of Chinese and Indian towers. The existing ones are wooden towers and earth towers. The construction of the tower can be divided into two types: solid towers and pavilion-style towers. Solid towers are divided into Ashoka towers, secret eave towers, Lama towers, and Vajra treasure towers; pavilion-style towers are divided into secret eave pavilion-style, brick and stone pavilion-style, brick and wood mixed style. The main building materials are wood, brick, stone, glazed and iron. The shape of the tower is square, hexagonal, octagonal, dodecagonal and round. The number of floors of the tower is odd. The more famous ones are the five-element towers of gold, wood, water, fire, and earth. The Ganzhou wooden tower located in Zhangye city was originally the old site of the Sui Dynasty Wanshou Temple. According to relevant literature records, the wooden tower was built by Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty in the second year of Kaihuang (582 AD) to house the relics of Sakyamuni. It is said that when Sakyamuni Buddha Nirvana, he got 84,000 relics. Ashoka put the bottle into the tower, and each grain built a tower. There are sixteen towers in China, and the wooden tower in Zhangye is one of them. Main attractions 'Ganzhou Prefecture Records' records: 'A city of mountain light, half a city of tower shadow, continuous reed creek, everywhere ancient temples', this is the unique style of Zhangye; those towers of different sizes and shapes, thousands of styles, It's spectacular. Zhangye is a heavy town on the Silk Road. After Buddhism was introduced to China, it quickly flourished. There are many Buddhist temples, many Buddhists, morning bells and evening drums, and incense smoke, which attracts some devout monks to come here for sightseeing and seeking law; among them, there are many monks from the Western Regions, and the form of building towers is also spread. The wider Buddhism spreads, the more towers there are. The tower seen in Zhangye is a fusion of Chinese and Indian towers. Among the 'half-city tower shadows', the more famous ones are the five-element towers of gold, wood, water, fire, and earth. Only wooden towers and earth towers are left. The wooden tower is a pavilion-style tower. The earth tower, the wooden tower is a pavilion-style tower. The earth tower, built in the Great Buddha Temple, is a bowl-shaped tower, also known as a Lama tower. The bowl still retains the form of a tomb. This type of tower, Zhangye built a lot, such as the Qifeng Town Ding Tower outside the east gate, the water tower of the White Tower Temple outside the north gate, the fire tower of the Chongqing Temple outside the south gate, the auspicious tower of the Anyang Gao Temple, etc., are all for monks, monks, and lamas. The tower built after the body cremation, so people call it a monk's grave. The special artistic style of this tower is to fill the entire hollow body of the secret eave tower into a solid body, becoming a solid tower, and people cannot ascend to the top of the tower. The lower part of the tower adds a large Xumi seat, and the seat is decorated with rich Buddha statues, Bodhisattvas, music, and lion and elephant patterns. Among the ancient towers in Zhangye, only the gold tower on the Golden Tower Hall of the Great Buddha Temple is a pavilion-style single-layer square tower, and the tower body is set up to place the Buddha statue directly. Due to the pavilion-style tower, although it is majestic and tall, the project cost is huge, and only emperors and wealthy officials can build it, and the common people are powerless. Therefore, the bowl-shaped tower is generally popular in ancient architecture, and the pavilion-style tower gradually declines, so many ancient towers in Zhangye are bowl-shaped Lama towers. The earth tower is built in the Great Buddha Temple, which is a bowl-shaped tower, also known as a Lama tower. The bowl still retains the form of a tomb. This type of tower has many, such as the Qifeng Town Ding Tower outside the east gate, the water tower of the White Tower Temple outside the north gate, the fire tower of the Chongqing Temple outside the south gate, the auspicious tower of the Anyang Gao Temple, etc., are all for monks, monks, and lamas. Challenge Myself with a Sky Trek!

#Gansu May 2023. Checked a bucket list item in North West China Zhangye Geo National Park in Gansu province, part of the Asia techtonic plates land formation. Picture perfect majestic mountains and deep crevices to explore. Deeply satisfying valley trekking with the ONLY way out climbing 2x vertical sky stairs hidden at the end of each long narrow paths. Almost 3 hours of hiking back to the top of the mountains. The next day, we hiked another millions years old dried up glacier that left deep cuts of high mountain walls. 4 hours hike to the top and back down the other side to get a shuttle bus ride back out to civilization. I finally did it! #境外遊
