The flight here from Beijing was a little long (and my tour cost wayyyyy too much) other wise this could have been a day trip. I made it a weekend trip instead. Spend the first day roaming around town, not a bad town but you can smell the farms near by. There were some really beautiful temples, I didn't get to go into all because of Covid but I also picked up a weird-o and I decided i was better off skipping the temple if it meant I could get away from him. Hate when that happens. The next day I got up early to go see the rainbow mountains, not as bright as some of those edited photos but still amazing. Then we drove out to the grottoes. They really are amazing, being built into the mountain like that before we had the equipment we have now. Warning though if you go prepare your self for heights and small spaces, I got no warning at all.

I felt like I was transported to my home country. The taste and almost all the ingredients they use to prepare it are exactly how we prepare our pork adobo. The soup is also very delicious. This is my new favorite restaurant in Zhangye. You will enjoy not only the food but also the place which gives you a different experience. 🤑💵💸The food is also very affordable and you can eat here with only 100 RMB. Wetland Park in Zhangye,China 🇨🇳

#wecreate If you have extra days in Zhangye after visiting the colorful Danxia mountains then I suggest you go to this place before you continue your trip around China. It is such a massive area which offers scenics views , different activities and if you just want to walk around then no problem because walking paths are available which conveniently takes you anywhere within the park. We didn't even realized that we walked too far already. By the way, this national wetland park doesn't have an entrance fee. There are two ways to enjoy the park. 1. Rent a bicycle so you can just bike around the area. 2. There's a buggy but you have to pay as well PS. We got sunburnt so cover yourself with sunscreen. I deeply regret not seeing this guide before buying the ticket. The Seven-Color Danxia Scenic Area is 40 kilometers away from Zhangye City and 20 kilometers north of Linze County. The Seven-Color Danxia 🌈 landform was formed by the Himalayan orogeny, water flow, and wind erosion. It is a unique colored hill landform in China. Zhangye’s Stunning Mati Temple

Mati Temple is one of the most famous scenic spots in Zhangye. The temple is located over 50km from Zhangye city making it difficult and very long to get there by bus. If you can, hire a driver for your journey. Opening Hours: 08:30-18:00 Tickets: 73 RMB/person 📍Address: Sunan Yugu Nationality autonomous county, Zhangye, Gansu ⏰Recommended time: 2-3.5 hours. There are quite a few stairs so it depends on how fast you can go. Zhangye Ganzhou Ancient Tower

The Ganzhou ancient tower in Zhangye is a fusion of Chinese and Indian towers. The existing ones are wooden towers and earth towers. The construction of the tower can be divided into two types: solid towers and pavilion-style towers. Solid towers are divided into Ashoka towers, secret eave towers, Lama towers, and Vajra treasure towers; pavilion-style towers are divided into secret eave pavilion-style, brick and stone pavilion-style, brick and wood mixed style. The main building materials are wood, brick, stone, glazed and iron. The shape of the tower is square, hexagonal, octagonal, dodecagonal and round. The number of floors of the tower is odd. The more famous ones are the five-element towers of gold, wood, water, fire, and earth. The Ganzhou wooden tower located in Zhangye city was originally the old site of the Sui Dynasty Wanshou Temple. According to relevant literature records, the wooden tower was built by Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty in the second year of Kaihuang (582 AD) to house the relics of Sakyamuni. It is said that when Sakyamuni Buddha Nirvana, he got 84,000 relics. Ashoka put the bottle into the tower, and each grain built a tower. Challenge Myself with a Sky Trek!

#Gansu May 2023. Checked a bucket list item in North West China Zhangye Geo National Park in Gansu province, part of the Asia techtonic plates land formation. Picture perfect majestic mountains and deep crevices to explore. Deeply satisfying valley trekking with the ONLY way out climbing 2x vertical sky stairs hidden at the end of each long narrow paths. Almost 3 hours of hiking back to the top of the mountains. The next day, we hiked another millions years old dried up glacier that left deep cuts of high mountain walls. 4 hours hike to the top and back down the other side to get a shuttle bus ride back out to civilization.
