The Museum is located in the northeast of Erlianhot City and is located in the Cretaceous Dinosaur National Geological Park of Erlian Basin. On the northwest Bank of Erlian Salt Pool, there is a building site covering about 1600 square meters. According to textual research, the site is the "Yilin" post station of Zhangjiakou-Ulanbato via Erlian Salt Pool. The predecessor of this post station is the Yulong Treasure, an important post station on the grassland Silk Road. It is an important node on the grassland Silk Road of the Yuan Dynasty starting from Dadu (now Beijing). The silk tea of the Yuan Dynasty started from the metropolis, passed through Shangdu, Yulong Treasure, then to Harahalin (now Ulan Batosi, Mongolia), Altai, and then to the western part of the Qincha Road, and was transported to various European countries. During the Qing Dynasty, this post became an important station on the tea silk road leading to the grassland. It was originally set up in the Qing Dynasty "Jiaqing" 25 years (AD 1820), and was also called "Yilin" post station. The Mongolian name is "Yilin" Yi, and the Chinese meaning is : Era, Initial". To the Qing Dynasty "Guangxu" 15 years (1899) set up "Zhangjiakou-Kulun" telephone line, which set up a telegraph office. In order to amplify the telegram to Europe, the "Yilin" post station written in Chinese became "Erlian" post station again. In 1918, Mongolian businessmen set up automobile companies, opened Zhangku Avenue, and set up "Pangbei" Jianjian Station at this post. The Mongolian name is "mourning and drinking big north number". Chinese means "salty post to welcome and welcome people from afar. With the opening and operation of cars and trains, the functions of post stations are declining day by day. In 1943, the Japanese army occupied the area and the post station was abandoned. The site of the post station on the grassland Silk Road is still very rare today, which is the historical evidence of the prosperity of Erlianhot. The "Yilin" post station site has become a key cultural relic protection unit in Erlianhot.
