Got lost (sort of) early in the day and happened to notice this little restaurant as it stands out as something very different in this part of Florence. Came back later that day for dinner and I am glad I did. This is by far the least expensive dinner you will find in this part of town and in addition to a good value the food is very good. It is tiny—barely has seats for more than maybe 25 people. Many came in and did take-out. No table charge and all self-serve. In Florence read the last line on the menu and most of the restaurants will charge you a cover charge of 2 euros per person just to sit down to eat. I get the impression that someone associated with the restaurant has spent time in Mexico or the southwest and understands the food of that region. Flavorful, and with just the right amount of spice—more if you want it. I highly recommend the place. Go for a walk in Florence and find it.
My husband and myself were in Florence for 5 nights, but touring northern Italy for two weeks. We live close to Texas and eat mexican at least once a week. Thought I would suprise him with this restaurant for our fix. We ordered the chicken quessida which was good and Margherita which was ok. Really enjoyed the chips and hot sauce. Thanks for offering "mexican" in Italy!
It's small. It's odd. It's run by three guys. Now, I thought it was a four. The food was great but the place is really small. More of a take away joint. My traveling partner thought it was a three because in the middle of his order the three boys running the place totally ignored him to help a lovely Italian lady who got free food - we did not get free food. All in all it pretty darn good Tex-Mex about a block off the old bridge on the city side of the river.
There were several people ahead of me in line to order food. The clerk would take one order at a time and then the cook would make the food and the clerk would serve it. Then she would take another order and the cook would make it. When It finally came time for my order, I asked for 2 classic margaritas and 2 ground beef tacos and 2 chicken tacos. She just stared at me with a blank look. I had heard other customers talking to her in English so I did too. When she did not respond, I repeated my order in Italian, but got the same blank stare. Then a lady behind me said that the margaritas were not very good because they did not know how to make them. I cancelled the margaritas and ordered 2 beers. Same blank stare, like she was in a different world. Finally the cook came over with the beers and I told him what I wanted to eat. He cooked my tacos and served them and then cooked my wife's tacos and served them. They don't seem to be able to cook more than one thing at a time. When I went to pay, the charge was higher than the prices on the menu so I protested and showed him the menu. He said that what I got was different than what I ordered and would not adjust the price. The food was only so so. We will not be eating there again.
