This ropeway has beautiful views, so you must visit. Depending on the weather conditions you may or may not see Mount Fiji. If you can, it's gorgeous peering out above the lake. The cable car ride is enjoyable and then you have just a short hike up the rest of the way. There's a nice restaurant and souvenir shop as well. Wear comfortable shoes, be sure to take your camera.
In about 10 minutes ride, Hakone Ropeaway brings its passengers to the most popular spot in Hakone, Owakudani Station, with the exquisite view of Owakudani Valley throughout the cable ride. If we are fortunate enough to have a good whether while in Hakone and the sky is clear, we can see almost half of the magnificent Mount Fuji’s upper part. So that’s one reason why this ride becomes one of the most popular rides around Hakone area. However, better avoid using this cable cart ride on local national holidays because it will be too crowd to handle.
The ropeway is an easy option connecting from the Tozan Cable car. You don't need to do anything other than follow the path. I did an all day pass that included the pirate ship on the lake. Touristy yes but a good value and great views of Mt. Fuji and the lake. The ropeway crosses over sulphur beds, makes a couple stops, and displays panning vistas of the area.
