I got off the bus to visit Ginkaku-ji. Felt like an early lunch and found this place on Tripadvisor 'nearby' restaurants. This is a small basic local Ramen shop but there's a couple of Tripadvisor stickers on the door. It wasn't even 1130 yet and there was a queue outside. Luckily didn't have to wait too long. But 15 mins later it was crazy with a huge crowd. Ask for an English menu but you really only make 2 decisions: medium or large and if you want extra 'chasu' (pork slices). The medium is plenty, made the mistake of ordering large. Don't disrepect the chef by not finishing everything; slurp all your soup to show approval. Probably the 2nd best ramen I had - the broth is rich but a bit salty for my liking. I'm still dreaming of the Hokkaido pork cheek ramen at another place.
My husban and I were visiting a friend who has lived in Kyoto his whole life and this is one of the many places he brought us. His favorite noodle restaurant, it was very good. The medium size is more then enough food, but you can also get a side of rice to eat with the soup left over from the noodles.
