Love the visual impact and spritual nature of this walk through the torii in the forest. The train was super easy but hard to confirm as correct. I ended up on one where there wasn't alot of English but it was all good. The train stops right in front of the shrine and you begin your colorful ascent past the foxes, shrines, torii lines paths. Towards the top theres a nice view of the city. Bear left at the fork toward a fun foxy fountain shrine. Temperature was great in April and no monkey encounters.

This shrine is best known from its appearance in the film Memoirs of a Geisha, it is the red shrine the young girl runs through spinning the poles. Fushimi Inari was the shrine that bought me to Kyoto, and it was well worth the trip. The shrine is build at the base of Inari Mountain, and leads to an extensive network of smaller shrines throughout the mountain. I'm sure I did not see all of them on my three hour hike, but the views were stunning, and the place felt charged with spirits.

5 min away from Kyoto station by train, getting off at Inari station on JR Nara line. Walk about another 5 min to the shrine. This place is a really unique shrine in Kyoto with 1000 torii gates built along the walk way in the shrine. It is a really spiritual/photographic place and a bit of a hike if you plan to go through all the torii gates! The entrance is free so it is nice if you are on a budget too. It is worth the visit for sure!!

There's about 10,000's red gate in this Shrine for wishing each of business success. It costs free and 24 hours open. Day time is fine but Night view is also amazing. but pls be careful, it takes about 1 to 2 hours if you walk through all of the gates. WhenI began at 20:30, finished around 0:00 Coz of I took many photos. That's terrible but "Pass the red gate through the night" means "Overnight Success" i guess, hahaha :) try it!

My favorite thing in all of Kyoto! The paths through the shrine are lined with varying sized orange gates all the way through. There is a two hour trail in the temple through the gates up into the rocky hills of this area. I walked the entire thing, there was almost no one out there (even in tourist season). It was so peaceful and beautiful and magical to be all alone in the woods when you are technically still in the middle of a city!

This may be the most iconic of all of Kyoto's many sights -- thousands of orange wooden torii gates climbing through a forest of hardwoods and bamboo like a tunnel, with the endless smaller shrines and their kitsune figures and offerings piled in niches all along the way. It's gorgeous and atmospheric, and the perfect place to spend a morning in summer, in the shade, away from the city's terrible heat.

I wish I had more time! It is a great walk - be prepared to climb a lot of stairs. Midway is a quaint tea shop. A stop here to reenergize and continue to the top is highly recommended. Many visitors stop at the beginning and take a lot of pictures... Trust me, continue going. The crowd will thin, the noise will disseminate, the air will thin, and your amazement will grow. Go early and get to the top!

This is one of those historic places that shows up in all the guide books and travel books because the endless and on going rows of toori gates are so cool! There's a relatively long pathway that you follow through the forest that's lined with these traditional red gates with a few stops at little shops and statue shrines along the way. Definitely take the time to go and have a nice walk through the area.

This large temple complex has the famous red gates throughout the path on the hill. They are clustered most tightly together near the bottom and become more sparse the further up the hill one goes. There are some nice views of Kyoto at the very top. There are numerous shrines/memorial areas along the path where people have placed much smaller gates. There are also numerous temple cats.
