I will start by addressing the obvious address discrepancy. I believe Albert's is on Dyckman, specifically 217 Dyckman St., just like it says on my receipt; but here on Tripadvisor it says it is on Broadway. Why would it say that? Why the mystery? Well, it turns out Albert's is on the corner of Broadway and Dyckman. So here is my conclusion; if you tell the average New Yorker that a restaurant is on Dyckman, you might as well be telling them that it is in the Dominican Republic. They may think they need a passport to get there, maybe a tourist guidebook and perhaps they may need to take Spanish lessons to communicate with the locals. On the other hand, if you say you are on Broadway they may not realize were they are going until it is too late, they've already gotten in a cab and are barreling north, well past the George Washington Bridge before they realize where they are going. For those brave souls who make the trip, you will be rewarded. The food here is excellent. Albert's has authentic Dominican and Puerto Rican dishes that are well prepared. Some people complain that it is not as good as what they had back home, guess what, nothing will ever be as good as your memories of being a child on an island and eating these same foods prepared by your grandmother. However, here, in this country, this is as good as it gets. Alright, the service could be better, we are in New York; but based on the Nostalgic feelings I have for this type of cuisine, combined with what are truly well prepared dishes that would appeal to anyone, I give this restaurant a high recommend.
The food was great, but Mofongo and meat served to make it harder to eat. Service not so great. Slow and had to ask multiple times for a refill. Tasty, but not again.
Been here a few times, but not in a long time. Service was S L O W, music was L O U D, and food was subpar. Semi-authentic Dominican culinary experience though.
My traditional mofongo was awful, really bad,no good!, the service is really good and the desert 4 leches the best
One of the servers, Steven took a long time to serve just water but the food is great.
Moldy bread. On all 4 sandwiches.
Good Dominican food, large portions, friendly neighborhood atmosphere, loud music. Not a place to come if you're in a hurry. They're not about that.
Great breakfast platter. The potatoes are amazing.
