We were looking for something to eat on VE day. Almost everything was closed until 1pm for the ceremonies at the Arc and up on the Champs Elysees. We were wandering around with no where in particular to go and we 'accidentally' found this absolute gem. Walking past the window I spotted a jamon carrier. It's shaped like a violin case and you carry your jamon around in it. (See photo). Immediately I knew this could be a special place, and it was. We were the only ones in the shop and it is a very attractive shop inside, with all sort of delights to look at and buy. Cook book's, condiments, wine, ham and a whole lot more. Even a "Stradivarius Ham carrier, with a ham, knife etc for a paltry 2000 EU. We decided to have a sample of the jamon, never having had Belotta ham previously. Max our host suggested we have a small taste of the jamon that was 63 months aged! What a taste delight. We also tried the jamon that was only 2 years matured and the difference was outstanding. We were concerned about salt as my wife has salt issues and he assured us that this would not be a problem. How correct he was. The jamon came presented on a volcano dish, (See photo) which allows the ham to be at a 45deg and with a small candle inside to keep the jamon at a nice temperature. The dish came with the 50g of jamon, bread, aged balsamic, a fresh tomato concasse. We shared a bottle of wine and the whole experience was simply extraordinary. If you have the chance to go please do, and trust me it's worth the effort to go out of your way to visit this marvellous shop. By the way there are a 3 of these shops throughout Paris so it would pay to check your location. They also have a small shop in Lyon and even one in Hong Kong!
Lovers of Spanish products, ham etc, this is a small but nice place to have a good meal. The service was great indeed, and the range of products is beautiful and tasty. Rich selection of Spanish wines in whites and reds. Try the montecayo: superb to go along with the ham and cleanse your buds. Great sweets too, if you are still hungry...and tehir expresso coffee is definitely good!
