Situated in the Latin Quarter, the Sorbonne was the historical house of the former University of Paris. Nowadays it houses higher education and research institutions that were split off from the University following the cultural revolution of 1968. It is worth enjoying a walk around the University buildings with the grand facades and excluding the summer months, soaking up some of the student life atmosphere.
a must if you like to know what's worth knowing
The surrounding neighbourhood is charming, with students running around, filling the bars, and bookshops all around. La Sorbonne is full of history. I tried to visit, but sadly, there's not much you can see if you are not a student. They do let you go into the souvenir shop, though, where you can buy overpriced merchandise like if it were a US college.
While I was in college I had the privileged to take courses here at the prestigious university. The lovely main campus is located right in the Latin Quarters. There are many off campus classes though if you are taking French classes. The teachers are helpful and nice. If you are thinking about taking classes here, it is a good thought :D
