Always somone having something to eat on the cafe, just steps from the riverfront. Meatcakes, potatoes and veggies for $7. Spaghetti bolognaise for $4.50. The French bistros just a stones throw away are twice the price, half the portion size, inconsisent quality, and have beggars standing in line to accost diners. Nordic House is a refuge from all this mediocrity. I was desperately searching for an entertainment area restaurant where I could be a regular, and this is it. Lots of other regulars, mostly retired expats, not all Norski's, but some Auzzies, all here. I had the special big breakfast at only $5.50, the only correctly over easy fried eggs and a decent sized home fries of any place for over a month here. Staff is happy and friendly, not the typical miserable wait staff that escapes into their smart phone in a daze and frown. The famous Candy Bar right next door and a slew of other hostess bars for plenty of action and antics to see and be amused. I trust their food as they are busy and turn over a decnt amount of business. A banana milk shake that is real and thick for $1.75, what a deal, you can't touch that in this area for less than $4.
This is a standard looking place which serves Khmer and Norwegian food. The service is good, the location is good and the Norwegian take on "husmanskost" is actually very nice! It is right down by the Riverside and so is priced accordingly but still cheap by Norwegian standards
I live just down the road from Nordic House in 136 Street, and I have many restaurants to choose from in the local area, but this is usually where I go for a coffee, or an inexpensive but good quality western style breakfast. The restaurant is street front so you can relax and watch the world go by. The staff are all super efficient and friendly. The free WiFi is fast and reliable. There is a very wide range of choices on the menu so you can get to try some of the local Khmer dishes but be safe in the knowledge that the kitchen is clean and properly managed.
Not really worth the walk. They only have verdens few scandi dishes. Rest is sandwiches and pasta. The scandi dishes i had was fine. If you really really miss scandi food its fine. But for most it will be a once off. Did nor meet Any other scandinavians while i was there. Saturday at 20.00.
