白楊瀑布位於三棧溪切入塔次基里溪(立霧溪)的河口處，由於塔次基里溪侵蝕度遠遠大過三棧溪，河床間形成明顯落差，才造就了如此壯觀的大瀑布。這裏原名"達歐拉斯"，意即高聳的斷崖。在塔次基里溪的劇烈侵蝕下，形成了深峻的地勢，地質學家以"掘鑿曲流"稱之，更有人把這個景緻美麗的地方，賦予"外太魯閣幽峽"的稱號，白楊瀑布便是當中可及性最高的一處勝景。

白楊瀑布是在白楊步道裏面，從入口步行到白楊瀑布大約需要50分鐘左右的時間，沿途都是秀麗的山景，峽谷，高高聳立的岩石，這裏沒有過分的人工開拓，都是保留了最原始的自然風光。從遠處就可以看見銀白色的白楊瀑布如絲般從峭壁中流下。但因為是10月份了，水量不是很充足，瀑布看上去也不是很壯觀。
