Bratislava is only 60 kilometers away from Vienna. It takes only about an hour to go to Vienna by electric train. Bratislava is the political center of the Slovak Republic. It is the seat of the presidential palace, parliament, government and cultural center. There are universities, museums and opera houses. The city has long used the German name Pressburg and has been strongly influenced by Germanic, Czech, Hungarian, Jewish and Slovak nationalities. From 1536 to 1783, the city was the capital of Hungary under the rule of the Habsburg dynasty. Bratislava has many historical figures of Slovakians, Hungarians and Germany, and the Slovak national movement in the 19th century was based on this.
