環繞王宮的是330畝的林地和公園，穿過這裏的公共大道可一直通往市中心的商業區。這座王宮的修建最早是由卡爾十四世國王提出來的。1823年，一位丹麥官員兼律師馮·林斯道被委任為總建築師，並在1825年舉行了奠基典禮。
