The Independence Monument is located in the center of Independence Square in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The monument is at the intersection of Norodom Avenue and Sihanouk Avenue. The Independent Monument is a unique typical Khmer building with seven-storey towers carved with hundreds of dragon and snake gods. The tower is 36 meters tall and 37 meters tall. It was built in 1958 and completed in 1962. It was designed by top designers in Cambodia. The Monument to Independence was built to commemorate Cambodia's liberation from French colonial rule and its martyrs on 9 November 1953.
