蘭州大學是教育部直屬的全國重點綜合性大學。學校創建於1909年，其前身是清末新政期間設立的甘肅法政學堂，是甘肅近代高等教育開端之標誌。1996年成為國家“211工程”重點建設高校。2001年成為國家“985工程”重點建設的高水平研究型大學。2017年，成功入選雙一流建設高校名單（A類），學校發展進入了新時代。

蘭州大學是中國(大陸)蘭州頂尖公立大學之一,在2024年QS世界大學排名中排名#791-800。
