Melbourne's Capitol Building was built between 1856 and 1930. The House and Senate chambers were completed in only ten months, just in time for the swearing-in ceremony of Victoria's first legislature in November 1856. Visits to the Capitol Building are free, but there are time and number constraints. We went out early and caught up with 9:30. First, we waited in line at the door. The staff would ask you the number of people. More than six people belong to the team and can not enter. After two or two entries, the first security check is to unload all the things on your body, check everything in the big suitcase and drink, and send you a sticker, which must be affixed to your body, then register your name. The small backpack is put in the cabinet in the lobby and can not be brought in, only mobile phones or cameras. About 20 people can enter in one batch. Then there is a special person to explain, the explanation is very detailed.
The Old Melbourne Capitol was built in 1927 and was originally the Federal Assembly Building. There have been two major extensions. It is a typical Victorian-style building with two floors of white buildings: the conference hall and office of the Legislative Department, as well as restaurants and bars for rest and recreation. Since the completion of the New Capitol in 1988, it has accomplished its 61-year mission and is now a museum of history. opposite the Old Capitol is the Windsor Hotel, which is said to have been stayed by the Queen of England when she arrived in Melbourne.
