Aedes Divi Iulii was built in 42 B.C. on the east side of the ancient Roman square, between Regia and the temples of Castor and Pollux. After Caesar was sacrificed by the Roman Senate, the temple was built at the site of Caesar's cremation. Caesar was the first Roman citizen to be deified and revered by the temple. Octavian, the first head of state in Rome, began the transition from private worship to public worship from the temple of Caesar. The temple is round with a black lid in the middle of the roof.
