The British Consulate for Dogging is the first foreign building in Taiwan. It is the first consulate built by the British in Taiwan after the signing of the Beijing Treaty. For more than 140 years, the old British consulate, baptized by wars and typhoons, once turned into a rubble, which was restored in 1987 and classified as a second-class antique. At the juncture of mountains and seas, you can overlook the seascape of Xiziwan. The east, West and south sides are all close to the steep cliff, and the north side is connected with Gushan, forming the situation of backing the mountain and surrounding the water on three sides. To the west, the Taiwan Strait is the only way for cargo ships to and from Kaohsiung Port. To the east, it faces Kaohsiung City, overlooking the city and port of Kaohsiung. Now it has become an open-air cafe, full of romance, is the perfect place for Kaohsiung people to relax in the afternoon and at night.
