At least two statues of William riding in The Hague were made by King William II of the Netherlands in memory of his ancestor, William of Orange, the father of the Netherlands. First, the riding statue in front of the Outer Court Square was cast in Amsterdam in 1848. Not far to the west, there is a riding statue in front of Nuerdenburg Palace, the Dutch Royal palace. The riding statue was designed by a French Dutch sculptor and cast in Paris in 1845. After casting, it was displayed on Champs Elysees Street for several days and then shipped to The Hague.
