薛家花園始建於1890年，建成於1894年，是清末無錫籍著名思想家、外交家、資產階級維新派代表人物薛福成的宅第。 薛家花園中軸線前後共6進，由門廳、轎廳、正廳、房廳以及轉盤樓等組成， 另有藏書樓、東花園、后花園、西花園等。 佔地總面積21000平方米，現恢復12000平方米，修復建築面積6000餘平方米。整組建築氣勢雄偉，規模恢宏，體現了清末西風東漸的時代特徵， 中西合壁的建築風格，填補了中國建築史上的空白。
