油麻地之名與油麻地天後廟有密切關係。根據天後廟內1870年（同治九年）所立碑記，當時該地稱為“蔴地”。後來到了1875年（光緒元年），當時“蔴地”是漁民曬船上麻纜的地方。不少經營補漁船的桐油及麻纜商店在那裡開設，故改稱為“油蔴地”。根據1873年的差餉收冊中，在油麻地的人士除了經營船隻維修、麻纜、槳櫓、鐵匠及木材外，還有經營雜貨、理髮、米店、妓院、鴉片、長生店、儀仗花橋等等。

天後，漁民和船民的保護神。香港是天後崇拜較早傳入的地區。在台灣、福建，人們稱天後為“媽祖”。香港現存的天後廟有百餘處，反映古代香港航運和漁業的繁盛。油麻地天後廟是一級歷史建築，昔日為油麻地沿海一帶，在大型填海后就成了廟街。

第一次來到油麻地天後廟, 一進門口已經聞到廟宇的味道 善信的香火 還有很多祭品放在廟內的神像前 很傳統的天後廟 買了一紮香后我也跟隨朋友 一起裝香 拜拜天後 祈福許願保祐家人身體健康 地理位置離地鐵站不近 要走5-10分鐘 不過附近就是廟街 可以順道遊覽。有着歷史風格, 是一座古老的廟宇, 可能不及其他廟宇香火鼎盛, 但地點近廟街, 可之後前往附近逛, 十分方便, 也有着很多特色的店舖。 特別是毎年過年的時候, 有不少本地人去還神及轉運, 也可買風車做留念, 另外, 這裏交通便利, 因此都吸引不少旅客前來参觀, 值得推介。

油麻地天後廟前,種植了很多老榕樹,所以被大家稱為「榕樹頭」天後廟內香火鼎盛，亦是遊客的打咭要點。

The opening time of Tianhou Temple is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day. It is suggested that 30 minutes be enough for us to have a slow tour from the small park outside Tianhou Temple to the inside of Tianhou Temple. According to records, Tianhou Temple in Yaumadi is the largest temple in Kowloon District. The temple is located in the coastal area of Yaumatei in the past. After the large reclamation project, it has become today's temple street. At present, the residents here no longer live by fishing, but they still worship the Queen of Heaven. It is said that the queen of heaven, named Lin Mingmo, has been able to predict the weather since childhood. She saved countless people in the shipwreck. Coastal villagers and fishermen all regard her as the guardian God of the sea and build temples to worship. Nearby Hotels with good cost performance, such as Seascape, Black Tea House, Prince and so on can be recommended. As for food, the vicinity of Miao Street belongs to the lower class of Hong Kong society, but belongs to the downtown area of Hong Kong. Restaurants near Miao Street are gourmet food, and all kinds of tea restaurants can not be counted. The most famous one is the Metropolitan Restaurant, where Hong Kong film gangster gathering restaurants have been filmed for decades; the four-season cooked-up meals beside the Black Tea Hotel on Ramada Street are super delicious, and the Qing Dynasty is comparable to nine beef briskets.
