Busan Azjumma claimed that since it was opened some 30 years ago, it has never used any artificial colour agents, flavours, or preservatives because it treats customers as family members. Our dining experience last Friday supports such proclamation. We had Chicken Soup with Ginseng Korean Style (with rice in the soup); BBQ short rib beef; BBQ beef tongue; and Rice in Stone Sizzling Hotpot with Shredded Mixed Vegetables, Chicken Fillet and Egg. All the dishes were delicious and served shortly after ordering. The restaurant is small, having less than 100 seats arranged in three rows of tables seating 4 each. What impressed us most (apart from the food we had) was the restaurant owner - a Korean "azumma", who was clearly in charge and managed to speak some English and Cantonese. She must be some 65 years plus of age and was confident and proud of her business. It reminded us of the Korean home headed by the most senior female with absolute authority - as we observed in Korean movies and TV series. The way we were served gave us a warm family feeling. We had brought with us a half bottle of Balmoral (left over from last dinner) intended to be finished at the table. I asked the waitress if I could do so by either paying a corkage or ordering another bottle of soft/alcohol drink. The waitress said she would need to ask the azumma. The azumma firmly said "no", especially because it was a Friday, and said the restaurant had no proper glass for wine. I said I won't mind using tea cup or glass for Korean beer. To our unexpected amazement, the azumma did give us two glasses when the dishes arrived and assured us that we would not be charged for it. Much thankful, I ordered a can of Hite (Korean beer) for home consumption later. We like the Azumma and her devotion to her Korean cuisine. The total bill came to HK$506, and we were totally satisfied.
