Olodum is present throughout Salvador/Pelourinho, with even a shop at the airport. Here in the old city is their main location, a drumming school and performance venue. They often march around the neighborhood performing, and if you hear what is obviously a loud drum group in the distance, walk and seek them out, it''s well worth the short detour and experience.I am not sure I''ve ever heard anything quite so loud! They stopped right in front of us, and while the music was very good, the sound bouncing between the walls of a narrow street was almost at pain level. I had to cover my ears (and my little kids''!) and enjoyed the experience of my chest resonating to some of the notes. Wow.
