You will need to use matches or a starter (provided) to light it up.--The oven is electric. To turn the oven on, please push the little black knob in the upper central part of the clock where you will see a bell icon, turn it to your left side and set the baking time. The oven will be turned on then, you can set the temperature and the method of baking with the other knobs. --The hot water in the kitchen sink comes out when you place the faucet knob all the way to the left.-- There is a microwave oven for your use.--There is a full size refrigerator and freezer-- The set of dishes and trays are inside the armoire, the glasses above the sink.--The silverware and cooking utensils as well as pots and pans are in the cupboards.-- The napkins, placemats and spices are in the pantry as well as the cleaning utensils._You will also find basic items such as sugar and salt. If you arrive late at night, I will make sure you have some coffee and toast, fruit and eggs. BATHROOMS--The left knobs in the bathroom sinks and shower/bathtub are for hot water. The master bathroom has a tub, the second bathroom a shower.-- Please place all used toilet paper inside the toilet, it is safe to do so.--You will find plenty of towels and extra toilet paper. BEDROOMS--The master bedroom has a KING size bed and a sofa, table and chair. There also a wood fireplace which can be used/ wood is provided.--The second bedroom has bunk beds, the bottom ones are double size and the upper ones single ones. There is also a library and you are welcome to use the books.--The beds will be made and if staying over a week's time, the maid will come to change sheets and clean the house.TV AND INTERNET (WI FI)There is a TV and CD player. Inside the drawers you will find the latest movies. There is no cable TV. There is telephone service in La Merced from which you may call long distance. The phone number in the Villa is 592 2 2385909.OUTSIDE LIGHTS--The outside lights switch is inside, next to the hutch, (next to the large exit door). The switch for the main gate is on the left side of the gate (inside). The house also has exterior sensor lights for the evening.P R O P E R T Y--Feel free to roam around the property. The river at the buttom is delightful but please take precautions not to fall off the narrow beach. There is a stone path leading all the way down to the river, these are at the extreme right edge of our property.CHURCH SERVICESThe Catholic Church in La Merced offers services on Sunday at 8am, 10am and 12m and also on religious holidays such as Christmas Eve (midnight mass)There is a Baptist Church near the villa as well.HOT SPRINGS A kilometer away.La Merced is known for it's hot springs... there is a complex with large pools one kilometer away from the villa, in the village, you can actually walk to them taking the road to the left and when it opens to a Y taking to the right and to the end of it. They are called TERMAS DE LA MERCED. It cost $5 per person and BEST to go at 6am when the water has been freshly changed and there are no people around!SHOPPINGThe best shopping area for you is San Luis Mall, barely 15 minutes away, they have just about everything you need to make yourself comfortable: MEGAMAXI For groceries, clothing, electronics, etc. this is sort of a "WalMart"FYBECA Drugstore for medicines, snacks, beauty items, etc.MULTICINES for the latest moviesDEPRATI for clothing, etc. FOOD COURT PRODUBANCO, BANCO DEL PICHINCHA for banking, you can use an international debit card to draw dollars, there is a $5 charge.SUPER PACO for anything to do with office and home itemsRESTAURANTS: Recommended: Crepes y Wafles for great ice cream, delicious salads and crepes, El Español for sandwiches and cold meats/cheese/wine, KFC, etc.In La MercedThere is a vegetable and fruit store diagonal to the Church in town where you can purchase such items, there are also a number of stores for emergencies such as bread, milk, etc. (the best one is next to the drugstore at the entrance to town).Excellent ice cream and desserts in the Northeast corner of the park and next to it, Italian fare.G O L FWe are members of Los Chillos Club where you can enjoy unlimited golf, their fee varies and we will need to check, you can bring your own golf clubs or rent them from this club.T O U R SNEARBY TOURS Sangolquí.- This lovely, bustling market town is 15-20 minutes away. To get there, take the route to San Rafael and as you approach the town, and the main intersection, make a left right after the bridge because you cannot make the turn at the light. At the end of the street, make a right that will take you to the light on the main road, make a left and continue straight. You will see the San Luis Mall on your left side, follow the traffic which veers to the right and then to the left at the light. Continue on the road and soon you will see the town. There is a wonderful wet/animal market on Thursday and Sunday mornings where you may buy fresh produce and fruit. Beware of pickpockets! Visit the town main plaza, this is a very old and historic town. Stroll around and peek inside the old homes. IF YOU ARE NOT DRIVING, HIRE DORIS TO TAKE YOU THERE, her fees are listed and waiting time is $5 an hour.--Alangasí .- This town is not so attractive, but there are many festivals celebrated here where you can see very traditional customs and costumes. Christmas brings the pase del Niño where the people that have made a nativity scene will take the baby Jesus to church for a mass before they put the set away. These are done with angels, Mary and Joseph, etc. Holy week is one of the main celebrations as well with very tall bonnets and devils, angels and cucuruchos. The celebrations take a whole week in which the whole passion is reenacted. Corpus Christi is another one when the people ride horses in costumes and masks, giants and dancers.Pintag.- The scenery is lovely, this is a very agricultural town and once a year you can enjoy the toros de pueblo (village bull fights) where everyone jumps in.
