The art of drawing was the visceral thread for the entire Italian artistic process in the 15th and 16th centuries. The drawing was the laboratory in which the transition to the art of the Modern Era came about; it was what served as the starting point for painting, sculpture and architecture. The creative searches, unexpected insights and main discoveries came about first on a sheet of paper. The print for its part was the guide to new creative ideas, the art of the model pattern. At first an example of new subjects or a visual textbook of anatomy, then a yardstick for style, and finally a sample of a personal manner of working, that is to say of artistic individuality. Gathered together in one setting, the prints and drawings allow us to trace the complex, at times contradictory, yet meaty and vigorous picture of the evolution of Italian art at the time of its greatest flourishing. The exhibition features some 150 works. They include miniatures executed on expensive parchment in the late 14th century and rapid sketches made from life by Mannerist artists, monumental colour woodcuts in the chiaroscuro technique and austere burin engravings, allegories that have still to be figured out and religious images full of pious emotion. On show are the personal creations of Andrea Mantegna, Filippino Lippi. Giulio Romano, Marcantonio Raimondi, Francesco Parmigianino, Baccio Bandinelli, Giovanni Bellini, Paolo Veronese and Jacopo Tintoretto. Many works have been given fresh attributions; several dozen are going on public display for the first time.

It&rsquo;s a beautiful palace. I recommend that you visit it during summer so you can roam around the yard. I visited in winter so I didn&rsquo;t get to see the park at it was fully-covered with snow. I chose the earliest time which is 10am as I thought it was just around St. petersburg but it was 1 1/2 hr travel so I came late at 10:45. The automatic ticket gate won&rsquo;t let me get in bit when I asked the Info counter, she asked me to go the 2nd entrance which is the gate for tours and I was granted entry on that gate.

[Attractions] The Catherine Palace, Catherine Gardens, Alexander Gardens, the Amber Room, and the Golden Room are all worth seeing.
[Visit Experience] Not crowded on non-holidays.

[Transportation] We recommend taking bus numbers 186 or 299, as there&#39;s less walking.

Peterhof is without a doubt, one of the most stunning palaces in Russia and the world at large. It was built by Peter the Great as a summer residence and became known as the &quot;Russian Versailles&quot; due to the stunning Baroque architecture. The fountains and gardens all reflect this grand opulent 18th-century Baroque style. Yet this Baroque style is distinctly Russian, as you can see from the subtleties of the architecture, especially of the church on the palace complex.The best way to get to Peterhof from Saint Petersburg is via hydrofoil, which will depart from the area near Admiralteyskaya near the Winter Palace. The hydrofoil is an excellent option because it is not only a relaxing way to get there, the views are amazing too as you can see all the great classical style buildings on the Neva, but you can also see the Lakhta Tower in the northern outskirts. That tower is actually not just the tallest in Saint Petersburg, it is the tallest in Russia and the tallest in Europe. But be prepared that the winds of the Baltic are really strong, so even if visiting in summer, layer up!When you see the palace, it is adorned b the Grand Cascade and Samson Fountain, which are simply spectacular to marvel at. At the complex itself, the gardens are the most worth exploring. You can simply get lost in it and forget that time even existed.
