Reed Flute Cave
If you want to see those postcard-perfect Chinese landscapes—endless karst hills, emerald rivers, and serene rice terraces—then Guilin and Yangshuo are the places to go. We spent three unforgettable days there, and here’s our tried-and-true itinerary and tips. First, the logistics! How to get there by train from Hong Kong It’s easier than it seems! We took the high-speed train from West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong. The journey to Guilin takes about 3 hours. The key is to buy tickets online in advance (foreigners can only use Trip.com) because popular routes sell out quickly. Great news for Russians: no visa is required for stays up to 30 days! The train itself is incredibly comfortable and clean, and the three hours fly by as you watch the changing scenery outside. You can also reach Guilin by train from other Chinese cities or directly by plane. Payments and communication: Don’t worry! Money: Alipay is widely accepted and can be linked to a foreign card. Cash is also used, but it’s good to have small bills for markets and minor purchases. Communication: English is rarely spoken. WeChat with its built-in translator was a lifesaver—just send a voice or text message, and it translates. It’s also helpful to learn a few key phrases before your trip: “hello” (ni hao), “thank you” (xie xie), “how much does it cost?” (duo shao qian). It’s easy to learn these in an evening, and locals really appreciate it! A personal driver is the best investment! We pre-booked a car with a driver for the entire second day (transfer from Guilin to Yangshuo with stops at attractions). It’s not too expensive if you split the cost among a group, and you get complete freedom of movement. The driver takes you right to the entrance, waits for you, and then drives you to the next stop on your itinerary. It’s much more convenient and faster than public transport. Day 1: The Magic of Guilin We stayed at a hotel complex right in the Shanhu Lake area (Swissotel), which was within walking distance of all the key spots. Reed Flute Cave Our first encounter with Guilin’s underground world. The cave is massive, and the colorful lighting turns the stalactites and stalagmites into a surreal show. Tip: Don’t allocate more than an hour for this. It’s enough to soak in the atmosphere without getting tired of the crowds. Sun and Moon Pagodas This is the city’s iconic landmark, located on the lake. The special feature of this place is its history: the Golden (Sun) and Silver (Moon) Pagodas were built during the Tang Dynasty to bring prosperity to the city. There’s even an underwater tunnel connecting them! The best time to visit is in the evening. When the lights come on, the pagodas reflect in the water, creating an incredibly romantic and photogenic scene. Day 2: Journey to Yangshuo and the Power of Nature Our driver picked us up from the hotel in the morning, and we set off. Rui Jin Peak and Cable Car This is one of the highest points in the region! The peak stands about 780 meters above sea level, and the cable car stretches over 1,500 meters. The ascent takes about 20 minutes, and the 360-degree view from the top is breathtaking.
20 RMB background observation deck
After watching the Eternal Love in Yangshuo, I took a taxi directly from Yangshuo to Xingping Ancient Town. It was already 7:30 PM when I arrived. I had a quick bite and then took a taxi to the pier to participate in the Osprey Fishing event. It was super fun, very unique, and very interesting. I highly recommend it! 👍 After returning, I showered and went to bed. The next day, I went on a Li River cruise. A taxi cost 20 yuan. (Background image)
Elephant Hill Scenic Area
Recently, I was chatting with my friends about travel destinations, and I didn’t hesitate to recommend Guilin! I went during the Spring Festival, and I still think it's very beautiful when I think about it ~ Take advantage of the freshness of my memory, and quickly sort out this strategy! Summary in one sentence: beautiful view, cheap price, delicious and good looking! 📌Itinerary Overview: Day1: Chongqing → Guilin Day2: Hotel → Elephant Trunk Mountain → East and West Alley → Xiaoyao Building → Hotel Day3: Guilin → Yangshuo → Guilin Day4: Guilin → Chongqing 🗓️ Day 1 | Arrive in Guilin 🚄 Transportation: Take the high-speed rail from Chongqing to Guilin North Station in the afternoon 🏨 Accommodation: Stay at Li Maple Hotel (Guilin North Station Branch), walk more than 10 minutes out of the station, convenient to go to Yangshuo early the next day. 👉After simple packing, I ordered a sour takeaway (I've been hungry for a long time, delicious!) 🗓️ Day 2|Elephant Trunk Mountain + citywalk 🍜 Breakfast: downstairs noodle shop 7 yuan Guilin rice noodles (cheap and more ingredients) 🚌 Morning: Bus → Elephant Nose Mountain Scenic Area 👉 Get off at Yangqiao Bus Station, the view of the Sun and Moon Twin Towers next to it is also good, and there is a street selling things on the road, you can buy a hat to prevent the wind. 👉Elephant Trunk Mountain Scenic Area ✔️ Door 3 free entry into the scenic spot, enter the scenic spot not long after a free photo to send you small photos, but large photos to spend money to buy the kind, you can try. ✔️ Walk all the way to the observation deck, you can see the elephant trunk ~ ✔️ Climb Elephant Trunk Mountain, go straight ahead from the observation deck, cross a bridge, and then you can start climbing. The most special Elephant Eye Rock must be seen! 👉East-West Alley ✔️ Scenic area out of the door walk to the east and west alley to stroll and eat, eat some local specialties, eat mango flowers, bananas, fake butt ... ✔️ Xiaoyao Tower - You can climb the building overlooking the city view of Guilin and the mountains behind it, which is also good ✔️ Encounter a house marked "original first" snail powder hot pot, must eat! I ordered a 54.8 yuan double meal and neither of them finished it. It's cheap and delicious! 🗓️ Day 3 | Yangshuo Day Trip 🚄 Morning: Guilin Station → Yangshuo Station (average HSR 30 minutes) 🚌 After exiting the station, take the bus → towards Xingping Ancient Town (RMB 20 background) 📍Stop 1: [Li River 20 RMB Background Observation Deck] ✔️ Free! It's a pity that I forgot to bring banknotes. There were many people borrowing money from others to take pictures. I was embarrassed so I could only find pictures of RMB from the Internet to spell them out. ✔️ There are many playing the old grandfather on the RMB, can give money to take pictures. ✔️ Lunch at the entrance of the scenic spot randomly found a restaurant, ate beer fish set, feeling quite good! 📍 Second stop: [Xianggong Mountain] ✔️ Hing Ping Pier → RMB 5 to sit on the other side, take a private shuttle bus to [Xiang Gong Shan] (negotiate the price in advance, you can negotiate) ✔️ Buy a ticket for 60/person, and then climb the mountain to the observation deck. It’s really beautiful. The most beautiful scenery of this trip was taken here. It’s simply too beautiful 👉 Return to Guilin the same way, and strolled around the supermarket near the hotel, around specialty shops to buy some specialties 🗓️ Day 4 | Return to Chongqing
