科斯納酒店(The Cosener's House)

Very disappointing. Not the 5 star hotel and service we were expecting. Small room, dated furniture and bathroom appliances. Reception staff glum and in no rush to help with bags or holding open door, some looked put upon and not exactly happy to be there.

Excellent. Best breky I've had for years. Beautiful location and property. Staff were amazing. Definitely going back. Oh! We appear to have inherited a brand new shiny red breasted robin which popped in whilst we were having a cuppa.

Really lovely locale with incredible potential. That said the facilities and rooms themselves are beyond in need of a refresh. The shower was unacceptably dated and outright unclean, the check-in staff was rude. I wanted to spend my one night and leave as quickly as possible in the morning. I’m not sure what to say to anyone who has rated this hotel as passably OK. The room itself was not.

Badly in need of investment, what could be a beautiful hotel is sadly not worth a return visit. From bedrooms seemingly last decorated in the 70s to what my wife described as ‘the worst breakfast I have ever had in a hotel’ (cold, stale buffet fare), our visit was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully we only had a one night stay.

Second stay here at character hotel with lovely terrace, garden running down to river. Got great room upgrade and checked in slightly early. All staff extreme helpful, e.g. printing travel documents, leaving me extra Galaxy chocolate and milk, great service at wonderful breakfast. I probably stay in 15 to 20 hotels a year and their breakfast buffet is superb. Good quality items, well stocked and at righr temperature. Will happily offer other items to order if not on buffet e.g poached eggs. Ate lunch and dinner on a few days, always enjoyable. Lovely brie, bacon, cranberry sandwich for snack. I love chunky chips but they were out 2 days I requested, regular fries decent substitute. Location excellent, on quiet road near park, restaurants, shops etc. Another great stay makes this my 'go to' place when in Oxford area as like scale, character, walkabilty of Abingdon.

The interiors looked a little worn overall (scuffs on the walls etc) but the room they gave us was horrendous. There were signs of damp, unhoovered carpet. The bathroom looked like a hospital /care home bathroom. They then upgraded us to their ‘bridal suite’ and I’d say that was an average budget hotel room, more like we were expecting. I have to say the staff were very accommodating. We weren’t expecting to be upgraded, we just simply couldn’t stay in that room so were going to leave but they were helpful in accommodating us. The grounds and exteriors are also pretty. Not a great location if you want to be in central Oxford as it’s about a 20 minute drive out. Breakfast was fine, nothing wrong with it.

There was a birthday party at the hotel and they requested that they have sole use of the bar and restaurant which the hotel granted. There was a band for the party and we were given a room directly above the band. We finally asked to be moved and were put in a handicapped room where the bathroom mirror was 3 feet off the floor. Bed was too hard and terrible pillows. It was one of the worst nights I ever spent in a hotel.

Our deluxe bedroom was very basic and far from deluxe. Food and wine options very limited. Few staff and very limited facilities.
