伍德諾頓酒店(The Wood Norton)

An amazing building with historical connections. The bathroom was good, with deep bath and good mains water pressure. But the bedroom needed serious update. No mains lighting in the bedroom or hallway, just plug in side lights by the bed and a standard lamp on old fashioned round pin plug in hall. I had to use a torch to move round the bedroom. The lift wasn't working, although the membet of staff managed some manoeuvre to get it working which I couldn't replicate. Restaurant was ok but the standard of a reasonable pub, not fine dining. Menu was a bit odd - steak and chips, fish and chips style or "venison pudding" which was a huge stodgy pastry with over cooked dry meat inside. Breakfast buffet was very nice, but too dark in that room also. Six jams and marmalades in open jars with no way of knowing what they were, and no little dishes to put them in to take to your seat. Service at breakfast had to be sought out, no one in site. Breakfast bacon was inedible - cooked previously then reheated. Overall, it is a fascinating place but needs a big overall and review of what they are offering.

A brilliant stay. Superb hotel. The meal and breakfast that we had were excellent as was our room - room 202. The only tiny criticism is that the signage for the car park is not very clear and the 3 pin plug sockets near the mirror don’t accommodate normal plugs, so we had to use the extension block provided across the room.

Whole place was amazing my hubby worked there when it was the BBC Wood Norton left in 1994 nice to see what they done . But the food was over priced for what you got , plates cold and food , sour dough was really hard etc did get money back after asking Only good thing was young bar maid at 18 really professional and knowledge deserves to go far . Food just late it down bar prices £4 .75 for a snall bottle of lemonade Price review on everything needsto be looked out Receptionist was nice Also suggestion pay for a cash licence so people can pay via cash etc

Comfortable country country house style hotel. Huge king size bed in a well sized room Friendly and helpful staff Large gardens Great breakfast cooked to order plus all the usual cereals , fruits and cold meets on a buffet Beware if you have mobility problems some of the rooms are in an annex that has a slope to navigate and the car park is up a steep hill, although there is a turning circle just outside reception for checking in and out However, these were minor drawbacks. Overall an excellent hotel

Stayed for 3 nights in August for a friend's wedding at different venue nearby. The room looked a bit shabby and felt like nobody had been in it for a while judging from the dust on some of the surfaces and the large spider we had to remove from the curtains. Bed was comfortable and shower good. There was a wedding on so we were unable to use the bar when we arrived. Generally during our stay, the bartenders were curt and came across quite unfriendly. Similarly for breakfast, the service was unsmiling and business-like. There were wasps everywhere, which eventually ended up as dead wasps in the hallways/windowsills - they were not cleaned up for a day or two. The main issue that tainted our stay was that on the morning of our friend's wedding the water in the hotel went off (no shower, sink or toilets working) which is obviously less than ideal. After speaking to reception a couple of times they were unable to provide any update and eventually provided cans of spring water for washing with... The young women at the front desk were very friendly and helpful generally.

Facilities were very good, and the rooms all over the hotel were very well furnished. We were late to booking a meal so had to eat early at 6pm.

If you want quiet and old world charm you found it. You must have a car because of location but if you want a restful location this is it. Make sure you read the interesting history of the house

We had a two night stay with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is set in wonderful surroundings and the staff were all very helpful and pleasant.
