多寧頓莊園酒店(Donington Manor Hotel)

My room wasn’t clean. There were cobwebs hanging off lamps. Leaky tap. No way to contact reception. No room in car park. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Left note of complaint - no one got back to me. I see there are good reviews on here about the food so please don’t be fooled into those 4/5 stars!! Breakfast was very good. But do not stay the night in this hellhole.

A welcoming reception and friendly host. Interesting style room with an old traditional design. Whilst a few areas need a bit of TLC, the room was clean, the bed was comfy and the shower was hot and powerful. Breakfast was to order and arrived very quickly. The bacon, egg and sausage seemed to be premium high quality and the hash brown was nice and crunchy. It’s not like your ‘traditional’ Premier inn or Hilton, so if you do stay here be prepared for a different, but positive, stay.

Lovely sized room however not enough care was taken over it. The extractor in the bathroom was filthy, the shower curtain was not hanging on its hooks properly. There was a broken portable heater in the bedroom, the bed base had no cover and was dirty and the bed light switches were behind a very high bed head so you have to get up to turn lights on or off. Tea, coffee and milk were not replenished

We parked in the private courtesy car park. A warm welcome was given by Helen upon arrival. After pre-lunch drinks in the bar, we were ushered into an opulent dining room. Food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented by very attentive friendly staff . The home made bread and artisan butter whetted our appetite for what was to come. The cured salmon starter was a jewel on a plate and super tasty. The local beef was tender and cooked perfectly accompanied by a generous Yorkshire pudding and seasonal vegetables. The indulgent Marmalade Bread & Butter pudding completed a wonderful meal. Chef Craig sources ingredients locally and we were lucky enough to meet him. We hope to sample the afternoon tea in the very near future.

The hotel hosted a surprise Afternoon Tea Baby Shower for my daughter on Sunday. Everything was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble, and the staff looked after us very well ensuring the day ran smoothly. The food was incredible- I’ve never seen such a selection of delicious cakes. They tasted as good as they looked! There was plentiful food. A couple of our guests had dietary requirements and they were looked after equally well, given as large a selection to choose from as the rest of us. Very impressive. Room was lovely too. The price was really reasonable, very good value for money. I would recommend using this hotel for a function and would use again myself if the need arose.

We visited Castle Donington Manor for my birthday meal and was pleasantly surprised with a fantastic dining experience by Chef Craig Riley and the team. The food was superb with appetisers to start followed by 3 courses of amazingly presented food. Chef Craig explained all the dishes on the menu, from where the food is sourced to his recommendations and I had a beautiful desert for my birthday. Overall a fantastic experience and highly recommend a visit to all.

20 of us stayed for a post wedding celebration. Cannot fault the friendliness of the staff. The dining room was beautifully laid out, the food exceptional and the service efficient with nothing too much trouble. This is a very old building with its own quirks and some of the decor is tired. The heating wasn’t turned on when we arrived and it felt cold but there was a convector heater in my room.

Before arrival - couldn’t get hold of anyone via phone, email or Facebook to try and confirm booking. Arrival - someone on reception who didn’t really know what they were doing, didn’t know what forms we had to fill out etc. The room - suppose to have been a superior room. Definitely wasn’t. It wasn’t clean. It was like stepping back in time. Heating wouldn’t work, we had to ask (after it took us 1hour to find someone as the reception was not manned) for someone to come and look the boiler. They did manage to fix this. All the electrical products in the room were all past their test date. Best thing about the room was the bed, it was actually comfy. The hotel - like stepping back in time, old, smelt musty, floor uneven everywhere. Was not worth the money at all. Have emailed several times to ask for a partial refund. Heard nothing as expected.

Had great Sunday lunch at the Donington Manor. The starters and desserts were especially good. Offered house baked focaccia while we had drinks in the bar before sitting down for lunch. The front of house was very welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable
